Get Used to Proving Your Age to Your Computer

Software features will be heavily limited by age

https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-confirms-windows-11-age-verification-to-heavily-limit-features-starting-with-teams/

Proof of age will be an increasingly larger part of MS's app ecosystem due to legal requirements of state and national governments. I advise checking the article in external link for a fuller explanation. In the links at the end of the article (link 4) you can see a list of countries and their age requirement. They differ one to another which is wy MS can't do all this globally.

"...age verification on Windows 11 should start popping up sometime around Windows 11 26H2 public launch (which can already be installed). Until then, applications receive an unknown age range and unavailable verification status and are expected to fall back to their existing age-gating mechanisms." - Neowin

The line in that quote I care about is the fallback. Until it lands, apps get an unknown age range and keep using their own gating, so every app decides for itself what unknown means, and "Teams did something different on her machine" becomes a helpdesk ticket we can't reproduce.

What I want to know before it reaches our 120 seats is what a work account on a managed box reports, and nothing quoted here says.

I'd like to be able to tell you, but I depend on published sources, and no one's gotten to that point, yet.

What is clear are the variables: 1) Location: The age verification is an ongoing thing because the laws exist already. This is a compliance matter. There's no start date as far as I can tell. If there's a problem, you get a pop up telling you. There are three US states which legally limit access to some materials/sites based on age. There are various countries which do the same. MS has published their identities and that's easily searched and are among the links I supplied in link4. 2) Nature of material/sites accessed. That's pretty obvious. I don't think zi need to elucidate.

The one less dim spot in this matter is it has alerted you to be aware of the issue...if that's any help. If action is required, the way to do so has been published as well and is also in the links, I believe.

Thanks, and thanks for saying nobody's published it rather than guessing. That's more use to me than a confident answer.

The location point is the one I can act on. Some of our people are remote, so which state a seat actually logs in from matters more here than which build it's on, and that's a list we don't keep yet. That's the first thing I'd go get.
