Stardock Please add these feature requests!

1. "Send To" when right clicking any program in the Programs List.

2.  "Show on Desktop" when right clicking on things on the right side of the Start8 menu like "Computer" and "Control panel".

3. Please fix Start8 so I can click on the Power Action Button and then move my mouse over another button like "Computer" and be able to single right click on it to bring up the right click menu.

Currently I need to right click 2 times.

What you should do is just make it so where ever you move the mouse cursor on the Start8 menu it will always active. This is how it works on the Windows 7 Start menu.

4. Please fix Highlight Newly Installed Programs feature.

Currently when clicking on a Highlighted "Folder" with programs the "Folder" remains highlighted even after clicking it.

However clicking on Highlighted programs in the folders do not stay highlighted anymore after clicking them once. I think this was fix in the latest build or the one before it. So the Highlight Newly Installed Programs bug was only half fixed.

5. Option for a "Start" tooltip when hovering over the Start8 button!

Yes I still want this! :)

Basically I really want Start8 to be 100% like the Windows 7 Start menu as much as possible detail for detail!

Neil Banfield could you please comment if Stardock can grant my requests?

Thanks :)

Our aim is be better than the original start menu rather than an exact 100% copy.  Otherwise you would be stuck with the Windows 7 look!

Number 1, 2, 3 and 4 are certainly on the list.  Number 5 is pretty niche and so far you are the only person who has requested this.

I've got Start8 v1.02 working as I'd like with the top-left and bottom-left hot corners both working as intended in Windows 8. The Start menu button also functions correctly too. So far so good.

I just noticed while checking out the Start menu that the right-click > Rename option is missing from the context menu so please could you add that? I find it useful for tiding up, i.e. renaming, program shortcuts after they've been installed so I'd love to see it added back. Thanks.

The Start button > Games menu is also very slow to display the contents in list mode (as opposed to the link option). On Windows 7 it would take at most 5 seconds to display but with Start8 it takes 20-30 seconds, granted there are some 90+ games in there. Any chance of fixing that please?

Thats really great to hear about 1,2 ,3 and 4 are on your list! :)

Also I am very happy to hear that Stardocks goal is to make Start8 a lot better then Windows 7 start menu :)

As for my #5 request maybe after all the important things are added and fixed in Start8 maybe then Stardock could add the "Start" Tooltip when hovering option.

Anyway I want to give a  big thanks to you Neil for answering my questions :)

Keep up the great work!

Drag & drop to and from the startmenu is high on our list of priorities and is likely to appear in 1.1 along with some other new features we have been working on.

Hey, you can still right click on an icon and select its properties/general... from there you can rename it

No one else realizes that the Default Programs shortcut is not automatically load the correct translation... :O

And where is the Start8 1.0.2 Changelog? Why do not you can add release notes area directly to the application home page?

Updated in v1.02:

  • Added typing "C:" in the start menu will launch Explorer to that location.
  • Fixed backspace on empty search box causing the search screen to show blank
  • Fixed non 100% dpi settings causing the start menu to appear too large
  • Fixed Metro apps icons not scaling with higher dpi
  • Fixed occasional corruption of All Programs tree icons on some machines
  • Fixed timing issue sometimes causing explorer to restart if you rapidly clicked the start button

I will see if it will be possible to add the changelog to the website too.
