What do you think?

This picks up a conversation I got into on another thread.

How many of you folks think this game is ready for Prime Time?

I still see typos, combat crashes, and massive event scheduling errors. If I am being a picky old geek then so be it.

However, it is my feeling that if this game is released as is, the critics will turn this game in to chum. In my opinion, too much hard work and good work at stake to lose it all now.

Autoturn and event scheduling in general are broken. Events step on each other and pre-empt each other. In game mechanics, that is sloppy. The audience for this game is the same audience that notices things like this.

So how about this:

1. Is this game ready for release or not?

2. If not, your most detailed bug list/ complaints/issues.

If more folks think the game is a go, then this is the end of it. If not, it may be awkward to push out a release date you just announced, but a badly perceived game would be more than awkward. It would be a disaster.

I think so, easily.  I have put in more than 80 hours of play in the last couple months, and will probably put in another 20 before it's released, and I have had very few issues with the game.  There are typos here and there, but that's so minor, it's really not worth talking about.  But the game is pretty stable for me, I rarely have a crash at all.  I see some minor bugs here and there, but they are not anything that would warrant not buying the game, postponing a release or merit a lower critic score.

Hellers1155, I do not think that there is a reasonable chance that the game will be delayed.  Too much attention has been focused on the release date.  Nothing we can say or do will change that.  Even the last few times we were asked about our opinion, it was mostly because Brad wanted his decision confirmed.

The game will come out.  The best things we can do right now is to get a few things fixed.  So, as far as I am concerned, anything but pointing out problems one considers MAJOR is a waste of everyone's time.

Balance issues, major interface redesign - waste of time.  The only thing left is to post really well documented bugs that can be fixed relatively easily.  For example:

The mess while upgrading troops? Not important enough to worry about it now.

The multi-thread mess? Can't be fixed in time.

The save/load memory leaks?  This may be fixable, or may not. The programmers would know.

Making autosave work properly at the end of the turn?  Worth trying for, in my opinion.

Typos and grammar? If English is your native language, knock yourself out.  Typos are easy to fix.

I believe the game is ready for release.  No doubt about it.

If you do find typos please post so we know and can fix them.

I think it is ready for release.

It's quite clear while playing it to see the care and attention to detail the developer has put into this game. It is a PC-only game too (an increasingly rare breed), which for me instantly makes it just that little bit more special.

?

XCOM with it's small maps and lack of options. Skyrim with it's LOD's and 'interface'. Dishonored with it's lower than low res textures.

I give thanks for every decent PC-only game these days.

And Fallen Enchantress is a hell of a lot more than decent.

No, game still comes to a memory stand still after every new game. Current patch seems to be really bad with I only get a turn or two before the game grinds to a crawl and I get all kinds of graphics glitches. It needs a final bug stomp at least.

Sounds annoying. But I never have these problems.

Ready for release! We can nitpick all day on loose ends but it's ready to go. Time to see how the market reacts. I hope it's well received, money starts pouring in, the devs can relax for a bit... and then come back in full swing with updates, assistance to modders, and expansions. :jafo:   I really want the excitement to take off post-release, imagine 10 more Seans and HF's around here modding stuff. Oh, the glory!

Definitely not ready for primetime.  They need to go back to square one, and do everything we say, then put FE out in another eight years or so.

The engine of the game is ready, but there needs to be more polish.  Typo's fixed, text formatting fixed, the event scheduling, the auto-save feature (i didn't know about this until a few minutes ago) etc..
