Why is Norton reporting .983 update as unsafe?
Norton keeps claiming .983 update is unsafe and deletes it.

Because it is a bloated pile of crap that flags anything that modifies existing code as a virus unless it finds it in its database?
I consider any Norton products made this century malware that needs to be eradicated. I only make an exception for some post 2000 Norton Ghost releases, but by now, they're crap as well.
As someone who fondly remembers the time when Norton Utilities defined "small, efficient and modular" for the kids who had not heard of Unix, I hate what people did to Peter Norton's name.
Seconded.
Third. It's like so many latter day products, living off a name that no longer has anything to do with the original developers.
Buy Kaspersky, and do yourself a favor.
I have been here doing updates sicne the start of beta. This was the first update it flagged as unsafe.
I did not make the post to hear comments about Norton. You get what you pay for, and in this case, it was free with the computer.
It was posted so maybe someone on the dev team could find out WHY it came up flagged.
Because the Norton program itself considers anything unknown as unsafe. It is as simple (and stupid) as that. Honestly, I would never trust a program that simply classifies anything it doesn't know as unsafe. What are whitelists and blacklists for? Anything that is not on a blacklist and not on a whitelist should not be automatically classified as unsafe, and should definitely not be deleted automatically with no option to keep. ![]()
you get what you pay for... in this case Norton paid whoever made your PC to put their software on there. So you paid negative dollars, which is appropriate, since it provides a negative benefit for your computer.
