Game Eight Bugs/Comments/Tweaks/Balance/Suggestions

Going to play Resolin again, Normal AI Difficulty, Many Wildlands, Dense Monsters, and Random Events more often. All else default settings. 

 EDIT: Re-organized into types of comments by public request:

 

  • [BUG] Ctrl-N Bug still exists
  • [Bug] When on the tactical map with the lake in the middle, if a square is highlighted with the white/bluish box and you move your cursor over the lake, the northwest line continues abnormally along a northwest tangent to the edge of the map.
  • [Bug] Got a Cyndrum Demon. When I killed a unit with it, the animation to show two demons did not activate. I do have two in the army space. Even in combat, the animation does not update when I get an extra unit.
  • [Bug?] Are the ‘Tilda Herbs’ supposed to be available for consumption in the tactical view? Cause, they’re not…
  • [Bug] When I took over New Paridan, there was a water shard within the cities boundaries. Now, whenever I zoom out to cloth map, the icon representing the water shard is inverted in color.
  • [Bug] Cultural borders still get confused. At the moment Geddens SHOULD be connected with my capital, but isn’t because the borders cross over each other wrong, and as a consequence stil receives the contingency unrest penalty.

 

  • [Tweak] I’m really enjoying the monster strengths. It’s not completely obvious that I’m going to win every battle. Strength COULD be tweaked a little harder…
  • [Tweak] Really appreciate the strength of opponent champions and their armies; HOWEVER, it’s very difficult to build counter armies to oppose them with the long build queues that exist for troops. Recommend reducing troop build queues. Logic: If troops are cheaper to build than buildings or resource improvements, then players will be more likely to build them instead of buildings or resource improvements.
  • [Tweak] I’m at season 55 and still have NOT encountered a random event with the setting set to ‘more often’. Recommend that the frequency of random events be increased.
  • [Tweak] Volume on that ‘intro’ book is still too quiet.

 

  • [Balance] Pioneers still take too long to make. If you want to limit pioneer spam, I recommend you have scouts able to build outposts instead of pioneers.
  • [Balance] In comparing the Horse and the Warg, there is no reason to get Wargs. Horses are just overall WAY better. Recommend Wargs receive a bonus to attack. Recommend Horses have a decrease to their bonus to Dodge.
  • [Balance] 80 Gildars for a horse is insufficient. Recommend 100 gildars.
  • [Balance] The ice elemental battle was set as a ‘medium’ encounter, however my ‘weak’ group slaughtered them. Should be more accurate information given as to whether you can take the group on.

 

  • [Suggestion] When you obtain loot and are given the choice “Equip” and “Okay”, the “Equip” options should open the EQUIP window so that you may equip the item. It should NOT equip automatically without telling you the difference you have in stats.
  • [Suggestion] IMO, whether an opponent surrenders OR is destroyed, you should still get the enemy hero as part of your empire. The difference should lie in what weakness he/she has when she joins you.
  • [Suggestion] Didn’t care much for the fact that the ice elementals have the SAME sound effects as the cyndrum demons. Recommend ‘blizzard’ type sounds for the ice elementals. Perhaps ‘snow crunching’ sounds.

 

  • [UI] On the left side of the screen “Quests” is cut short…”Que…” Can we fit that ‘s’ in there so we don’t need that “…”?

 

  • [Comment] Not sure if this is a balance issue yet or not, but I’m finding that it takes quite a bit more to get my spells to go through. Lots of resistance to them.
  • [Comment] Are you only allowed to run 3 quests at a given time?? I just stepped onto a camp to activate a quest, with 3 already active, and nothing happened.
  • [Comment] I’ve found that many maps have more of an ‘island’ theme to them rather than a ‘wasteland’ theme. I’d rather have to cross wastelands of non-inhabitable territory instead of dealing with bottlenecks from water.

 

  • [Applause] I never thought I’d like the increase in unrest when a city is not contiguous with the capital, but the fact that it’s a 15% penalty really makes you want to build those unrest buildings. In an odd way, it works out really well.
  • [Applause] Really like the sounds effects that go with the Cyndrum Demon. Great job! You must have snarled in front of the mirror for hours to get that just right. XD

 

  • [Feature] Recommend having 'wrap world' as an option for the game in both east-west AND north-south (if the engine can handle it). I would love to be able to explore in ALL directions no matter where I am on the map. Thanks.

I don't have any issue with the volume here. Although, if you do compare the volume of voices from the intro vs. the reading of the book the intro is a little louder. I think I would prefer the intro move to be a tad quieter, but I think it may be a by system basis for the volume changes.

I agree that there should be at least some continuity between all the volumes in the game.

  • [Bug] Just got Queen Procipinee to level 4. I thought this was the level where you choose the ‘path’ however; Path of the Warrior is unavailable and is instead replaced with Potential I. What’s the deal?

 

  • [Tweak] I just picked up the Warding Kite Shield with Serenes and the avatar now has a shield covering most of the space. Looks very ugly.

 

  • [Suggestion] Would like to see resources associated with an outpost INSTEAD of being associated with what the GAME believes to be the closest city. Then, would like to be able to CHOOSE which city the outpost is associated with.

  

  • [Question] Can you ‘push’ opponents cultural borders by building outposts along side in an attempt to obtain nearby resources still? Or has that been eliminated since 0.952?

 

  • [Balance] Non-Agression Pact at 50 seasons is too long a time frame. Recommend 30 seasons.
  • [Balance] Rat quest: As much as I don’t want to mention this, as the 300 gilders is a fantastic reward, I must admit that it is far too much for such an easy quest. I recommend reducing this amount to 150 gilders.
  • [Balance] Did the Alchemy Spell Quest. The conversion of 100 mana to 100 gold is too powerful. Recommend changing to 100 mana to 50 gold.
  • [Balance] Adventure’s Guild city improvement still needs to become better than a 25% chance at gaining 1xp per season.

 

  • [AI] Magnar doesn’t seem to want to pick up ANY of his loot.

 

  • [Applause] REALLY like the crypt layout for tactical combat! Great job!
  • [Applause] Not sure if this is suppose to work the way I think it is, but looking at the left side, do the list of cities have icons that are representational of the type of city they are?? If so, that is so AWESOME!
  • [Applause] I like how some of the quests require MORE than 2 or 3 squares to travel to.
  • [Applause] Path of the Governor looks VERY enticing now. Good job! Will try it out.

 

@parrottmath: Yeah, I'm not sure if it's my sound settings or if the problem is more widespread. The sound in the intro, as well as all the music and sound effects (expect for the occasional loud lightning bolt) are all good volume for me. The 'book' reading is too quiet, so I have to turn up the volume to listen, and then turn it back down to play the rest of the game. Just thought it needed a tweak.

Well, I'll call it a night. Will play more of the game tomorrow and will continue to pile on the notes. Would love to see some Stardock feedback in addition to the excellant comments made by these fine beta testers. (would let me know that my time isn't being wasted). Thanks.

The Warg is very good for Sovereigns who use spells with a casting time, because of the + 6 initiative bonus.

I think horses and wargs should cost 130 gildar, because they are very powerful.

Font issues:

The font in the book at the start of the game could be a bit bolder.  It is difficult to read.

The +s in the tooltip text are hard to distinguish from -s.  The vertical line is antialiased almost out of existence.

1: Agreed, would make resources more interesting instead of just another +1 grain bonus, a problem will probably be the poor mechanics for level ups, you will send all your grain to 1 city, waiting for it to get to level 5, then relocate it to another city and the 1st will stay at level 5 in the current system.

2: Seems to me that city borders overrule outpost borders, the AI pushed one of my life nodes in a game (and got a war right after }:) )

3: Yes 300 gildar is a lot, and there are quite a lot of quests rewarding this reward, Dunno though, just wish half the rewards wasn't all rubbish.

4: NO! I hardly ever use the alchemy spell, I don't know how or why you can have tons of mana but little gildar, but I think it is linked to playstyle, 100 mana is a lot of mana and 100 gildar is less.

5: it does? I think everytime I take it my heroes are way weaker than if I had taken mage/warrior.
That said, at least the path trait itself is worth levelling silly heroes to level 4 for. (some heroes are plain rubbish, compared to the competition :))

Just a few thoughts, appreciate the amount of time put into the comments! :thumbsup: , especially now after there is space inbetween and stuff so I can read it.

Don't think so...I'll check this evening, though I think I'm well past loading an old save nearby it's occurance.

Checked into it. Queen Procipinee somehow had Path of the Warrior before level 4, while being controlled by the AI. Therefore, I was able to have her level in two paths.

The AI controlled sovereigns get free paths at level 1 even on normal difficulty. Its an old bug.
