hmmm, are you insinuating that others dont like it here or dont like Stardock Products, skinning, community.. etc? for the record, I have sunshine shining into my window at the moment.

Yeah, WINCUSTOMIZE and it's admins are great! And Stardock!

No no no, I don't mean to insinuate that. It's like watching the news. Mostly, it's only the bad stuff that gets the attention. I just wanted to draw some attention to the good stuff. That's all. To quote myself "... most of us are happy ..." Spread the word!

Go Mike, there's plenty of doom and gloom in the world already without looking for more.

Thanks for your support guys. It is appreciated. There is nothing particularly egregious (sp) in the "I'm pissed" (except maybe the title).

It just illustrated something that in hindsight should have been obvious - mix business and pleasure at your own risk. I'm not going to volunteer to run another GUI Olympics not because I'm "ticked off" at Davad's post but because the thread finally made me realize that Corporations can't do altruistic things and people who work for those corporations can't volunteer for things in the same areas that their jobs are in. People can't be expected to recognize altruism because smart companies don't do it.

The GUI Olympics wasn't designed as a marketing event for Stardock. It was designed as a way for Stardock to give something back to the community. It required immense amounts of volunteer time by myself and T-man. If it were a marketng event, you would have seen tons of Stardock product announcements and overt publicizing of our software on the GUI Olympics page. That would have been for starters. But anyway, the problem with volunteering for something is that you expect people to treat volunteers differently than someone being paid to do something. But people can't be expected to recognize when something is done voluntarily and when something isn't.

The GUI Olympics went off really well I think. There were apparently some issues in distribvuting the physical (shirts, etc.) prizes which will have to be looked into. I am not sure if the promise was shirts OR ODNT or shirts AND ODNT. I cna't remember where the prizes were announced to look it up. Contrary to what someone said, the rules weren't changed during the contest (I found that claim rather obnoxious). The only rule that did change was user voting and that was largely due to the sheer volume of skins (no one expected 100+ skins to be submitted).

But as a volunteer, it's just too much work and I think I'm just too much of a public target to be organizing such things. If others wnat to start up their own contest, we'll definitely support them though.

Thanks again for your support!

"There will also be two honorable mention winners in which they will receive a non cash prize (Object Desktop Sweatshirt, T-Shirt, Object Desktop Subscription/Renewal, Lightweight Ninja T-Shirt or other merchandise)."

I took that to mean "one of these", but it's easy to see how that could be interpreted as "all of these" - although considering the lowest prize was $12.75, half of which would go to the website, a renewal would be quite generous for a prize below that.

That 'or', along with punctuating 'commas' in the list of prizes quite distinctly defines an 'alternative' not an 'inclusive' statement....so being pedantic about semantics it means 'one of the above', but not 'all'....

Jafo is grammatically correct.

I may not be pedantically grammatically semantic...

but I am happy...

I was perfectly content to let this die, like many of you suggested. However, it appears that there are still some who want to see it go on. Therefore, I must remind you Professor Jafo, that there were 2 statements made regarding the prizes, both of which were very similar. You can't just pick the one that you want to use for your educational demonstration. There shouldn't be any debate regarding what Brad's intent was. When I emailed him about the prizes, he stated that yes, I should have received them. He made that statement before all the drama here on the message board started. That should clear up and hopefully eliminate all the dissection of the two posts. So now hopefully everyone can take their fans and find a different fire to use them on.

No no no, not on this thread. Take it back over there.

davad....I never got directly involved in the GUI Olympics, apart from looking at the site in its 'beta' before release...so was totally oblivious to there being 2 such statements, and was simply responding to the one here.
It was neither a flame, nor any other sort of incitement.

I 'try' NOT to aggravate situations/threads/whatever here, but merely proffer assistance. Please don't be quite so hasty at judging actions/comments as 'flame fanning'...

This is not one of those reactionary threads is it? Thread A says one thing and someone starts thread b to say the opposite instead of doing so in A.
