Ganked by AIs

Im not very good at the game yest so i focus on solo play.  One big problem i have is that i pick the big maps usually and i go against a mix of hard and unfair AIs.  i can usually hold my own, except for when i start getting ganked.  it usually happens about 20 minutes into the game and then i start getting swamped by 2 non-alligned AIs with most of their fleets.  I cant defend against both, any advice how to deal or prevent this?

I usually play advent loyalists but ive had trouble with vasari as well.

Try TEC loyalists with their twin starbases. It may help.

Further help will require knowing your strategy.

FYI Unfair AI is a cheating AI. Any AI above Hard is a cheating AI. Play the Easy, Normal, and Hard AI's until you get your strategy down. Once you can beat Vicious AI you can probably join MP games, and survive for about 5 minutes, but MP requires totally different strategy's altogether.

Advent Loyalist are the weakest faction in the game right now. A good faction if you want a challenge. Their tech is all culture based. Try Advent Rebel, or any of the other factions.

End of Pbhead's quote

This...do 1v1s or 2v2s, larger maps are not very good for learning...the greatest weakness of most new playes is their expansion, it just isn't fast enough and from then on they are always behind and everything is an uphill battle....larger maps penalize you even more for expanding slower, because you are closer to your enemies (less planets per player on larger maps) and enemies far from you can potentially wipe out other players and become behemoths late game...

Personally, right now I think Vasari Rebels are the easiest to play as for noobs...phase stabilizers can let you jump anywhere, and the phase jumping SBs makes offensive actions much easier...also, the moving SB in general just helps you defend better against the AI...these two elements allow you to defend and attack anywhere, which is invaluable when you are having a hard time dealing with multiple AIs attacking you....

I generally suggest that one should be capable of dealing with unfair AIs before moving to MP...that being said, regardless of what difficulty you are comfortable with, your first MP games should probably be with other newer players on smaller maps...
