Window Blinds Shifting to the right on desktop

I am running Window Blinds v3.01 and have noticed from time to time that my desktop will shift to the right hand side of the display area ?

This problem is just associated with Window Blinds and goes away if I unload it and run with Windows menus.

I find this most noticible when launching IE6 --sometimes the desktop display will move over so far that I cannot get to the close "X" icon in the top R.H corner.

This is a problem I have noticed in all the versions of Window Blinds I have used over the year within Win 98 - Win ME and now Win XP (Home)

The interesting thing is that it only happens with certain skins that I apply.

I use a Sony Trinitron 20" Monitor and running with a default res of 1024X728 -- Video Card is ATI Radeon 64.

Anyone out there notice this same thing happening?

Thanks So Much,

John

Could you give some examples of the skins on which it occurs and those which do not cause the problem? It may well be that they share some skinning feature (like menu skinning) that is causing the problem.

Also, are you running any other accessories that might be "helping"? There have been a few bad interactions in the past . . .

Also, how long has it been since you updated your gfx card drivers/bios?

The reason I ask is that I am running a sony trinitron flatscreen monitor and WindowsXP Pro too, and at first I had issues with the display, (though admittedly not the one listed above).

Since I couldn't run the NVIDIA Detanator 3 drivers (running a 64MB 4X AGP Guilletmot Hercules Prophet 2 Ultra) I had to wait for drivers to come out from the manufacturer to clear up the issues.

Just a thought...

Looks like you can get it from here (this is the DDR card, not the SDR card and it looks like it requires DirectX 8.1 or higher FYI)

First of all thanks to all three that replied to my problem.

First of all one of my favorite skins is "Humidor" I had deleted this skin as it really shifted to the right when I launched IE. I just now went out and downloded it again and it still has the right shift problem. It shifts over so much that the "X" button in the upper R.H. corner is almost covered up.

Other skins that I have experienced shift problems with are: Chrome Tube, Desert Rose, 2Bloo, 100 Camels, Airframe, Album, Copper Deck, WB, Dark Marble, Dark Marble II, Dream, Driftwood, Gel Pipes, Granite, Janus Soul, Just For Fun, Leather Box, Nostrodomo, Reluctant Genius, & Brushed Stainless.

Please note that some of these skins shift more or lessto the right than others.

I am running the latest Direct X v8.1(4.08.01.0810)
My ATI Video Driver is 6.13.3276.0000 which is the driver that ATI recommendes for Win XP at this time.

The Monitor is the Sony GDM Multiscan 20seII and I did try to install it's drivers into Windows XP but got the message no to do this as the embedded monitor drivers were more up to date.

I had just flashed my system bios before doing a clean install of Windows XP (Home) so it's up-to-date.

To re-iterate what I had previously said this problem has been going on for me for several years and I have been through 3 differnt O.S.'s and many hardware changes.

I have contacted Stardock support on this problem several times but to date they have not been able to pin down the problem for me.

Thanks Again,

John

John,

With that list of skins I think you rule out the skins themselves. That is a pretty broad selection.
You mention the "x", are you talking about open IE windows on your desktop or the actual desktop itself?

If it's been going on for that long, it's really likely to be another accessory that's interfering. Have you been running anything else that long, aside from Windows itself? And can you specify some skins for which it specifically does *not* occur (so that we can figure out what feature may be causing the problem)?

Well, i kind of have a similar problem, with some skins, including my own. ! Except it's not to the right, but to the top, off the screen, making all the buttons innaccessible. Especially in Photoshop, the new documents open wit their titlebar hidden offscreen at the top. But it's not constant. Dunno, weird. I figure it could be a setting somewhere in my skin that has to be adjusted but I have no idea what it is.

Well fellas think I just might have figured this all out after changing my default resolution from 1024x768 to 800X600.

I noticed that "Humidor" lined right up when I changed the res to 800X600 and as soon as I changed it back to 1024X768 it shifted to the right.

I dont know anything about designing skins but I am wondering if perhaps sometimes they are built around a paticular res?

I have noticed that the new breed of Win XP Skins seem very stable and don't move what-so-ever when I launch into IE.

Bill you were asking about what "X" I meant -- it's the one built into the skin that would allow you to close the open window.

I have come with fix for my problem by simply holding down on the ctrl key while getting the skin squared up on the desktop and then clicking on the html icon in the far upper L.H. corner and closeing the windows and releasing the ctrl key at the same time -- this will hold this setting until I again choose a different skin such as one of thoes new Win XP Skins -- then whe I go back to say "Humidor" again it's out of wack.

On a completely different subject I notice that when I click on my name to bring up properties in this BBS it show the "Author" as my wife Susan -- how can I change this to my name?

Thanks again for all your help,

John
