Titan death un-impressive

Titan death un-impressive

I know this is a beta and things have yet to be added, but i killed my first titan today and well it wasn't very spectacular. you would think a ship of that size would leave more derbies then it did. hopefully in the final release they will add more maybe even have a massive hulking hull laying broken in space rather then tiny bits every where.

I think that when the Titan explodes it should rip the space-time continuum exposing a rift to an alternate universe where 16 new races and thousands of new ships are introduced.

Now that would be something for Sins 2.

Agreed. Hardly noticed the explosion in a larger battle.

Ironclad - please play haegemonia: legions of iron.
Watch the effects when a starbase or a dreadnought is killed.

Now THAT'S how it should look like.

Now, in all honesty, an explosion that expands through the entire gravity well, is, in my opinion, a bit over the top. I'd say a relatively small band for the explosion, but maybe chunks flying in random directions, meaning that any long range damage from the blast would be in the shape of a few cones.

That way, it certainly would be spectacular, but it would never kill and entire fleet. (unless you somehow managed to line your entire fleet up in a straight line)

And also, Brazilian_Joe- I LOVE your black hole idea. I honestly doubt they'd do it, but I'd get a mod that did that in a heartbeat, and I sure hope they do implement something like that.

I think that a Titan's death  effect could be comperable to the Advent's Starbase ability to throw out metors. Enough to clobber damaged frigates and crusers, but not crazy on its own.

It would be really nice if every titan and capital ship got their own specific gibs. The vasari capital ships have specific gibs but I guess they got lazy and didn't feel like doing it for the other races :/

I like the idea of a more glorious explosion. That's always been one thing lacking in Sins. As for damaging other ships, maybe in a tight radius. I don't think it should be used as some kind of suicide bombing effect. If the owning faction decides on this tactic they could jump to another planet and then jump back to the target, putting the defender at a disadvantage by losing even more structures and ships with little recourse. Rather then massive destruction i'd prefer there was some lingering negative effect, like slower ship movement in the area for a short time or a cloud that drained antimatter so both sides are put in a sticky spot while still being able to reasonably defend themselves. At the very least a push-back effect for all surrounding ships.

I think a pushback effect would be cool. Maybe focus more on that or lingering debuffs, rather then actual damage.

I definitely agree with the idea that Titan explosions should be both impressive and damaging. Anyone remember Freespace? I remember many a time where I was afterburning away from a dying capital ship, going "omgomgomgomg", hoping I didn't get splattered by the shockwave(s).

Necroing can be fun sometimes I guess.

Anyone else notice that new effect when a Titan enters a well?

It looks like a shockwave..

All ships leaving phase space create a shockwave. It is just more visible for Titans as they are so large.

Titans should not have a sort of ability when they die, simply because Titans never really die and come back at the same levels. Killing a Titan should not punish whoever killed it because of this.

If that were changed...then we can talk. As for the graphic...ah well you never know....there are patches and mods...

When i first destroyed a titan, the explosion was nice, but not what i was expecting, so i decided to think of my own death animations for the titans:

Ankylon: The ships shield generates and weapons go critical, causing the outer walls to have several explosions (moving towards the center of the ship slowly) then causing the center of the ship to break away, causing the main explosion.

Ragnarov: The ships Rail-gun goes critical, causing the barrel to begin exploding and splitting (several explosions occur across the railgun) thus causing the rockets and then engines to detonate, destroying the ship

Coronata: The anti-matter pool of the ship goes critical, causing anti-matter to be sucked into the ship, which then Detonates, spreading out a large anti-matter cloud.

Eradica: (2 stages) on activations of it's after-death ability, the ships takes a spiritual form, leaving behind a blue form of the ship. Stage 2: (timer of ability ends) the spiritual form begins to dissolve and break away into space

Vorastra: The "Maw" enters a self-destruct state, causing energy to burst from the ship  (like it's breaking into pieces) Then causing the ship to start getting sucked into the Maw, then exploding (not a small explosions, as the Maw collapse on it's self).

Kultorask:The ship beings to break away and split into several pieces, then the pieces cause major explosions (as the nano-machines escape and detonate)

That is how i'd like to see a titan be destroyed . .to go out with a bang.

Idea: Hear me out here- Titan(going to die soon)     -->  Planet

                                                          Planet goes BOOM!

                                                          works like a novalith

Nevermind that sounds terrible  :annoyed:

At least you admitted it.  If you didn't Mecha-Lenin would show up and call you a troll.

He probably will anyway. It's his job as troll king.

I think the titans should also severely damage near by ships when destroyed as well, a fitting end for them.
End of Polistes's quote

well problem is Argonev's notorious push the red button does not damage friendly targets in its blast radius so y a titan's destruction should damage nearby ships?
