What process is using the cpu?
End of Neil's quote

Looks like it's dwm and it's limited to 1 core.

This may be linked to your multiple graphics card setup.  Do you have any machines with a single graphics card and if so are you seeing the same on that too?

Also how long was the machine on before this started to happen?

It doesn't happen on my laptop.

It was several hours worth of constant working before I noticed it....maybe 4 or 5. This morning it's been enabled about 4 hours but the system's been mostly idle. Core 1 is showing between 9-12% at idle while the other 3 cores are <4%

edit: as a test I disabled WFX and now core 1 is idling at the same level as the other 3....

re-enabled iit and the core still idles the same as the other 3.....

Just started running dual cards as well, now I'm seeing issues.

While runing with a single 560ti and dual monitors, windowsfx5, and deskscapes 3.5 all was fine.

Wanted to offload the 2nd monitor to another weaker video card (7950GT) and ADD a 3rd monitor.

So now my layout looks like this:

Primary card - 560ti with samsung 27" LED

Secondary card - 7950GT with Gateway FPD1775W and HPS2031.

Not SLI'd (not possible, not wanted)

Upon reboot Aero would crash once the desktop was loaded. Then as I opened a few windows, the computer would become unresponsive. Tried multiple reboots with the same result.

Trying to track down the issue, I eventually disabled windowsfx5 in msconfig, and now the computer works just fine with new video card / monitor configuration, including Deskscapes 3.5. It is truly amazing that I have 3 different anamations for each of the 3 monitors. WOW ;)

I would like to get WindowsFX5 working again, any suggestions on what to try ?

I did notice one thing that seemed odd:

Nvidia control panel reports the configuration CORRECTLY, however Deskcapes reports the monitors INCORRECTLY as:

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 7.2
Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 7.8

DeskScapes appears to be activated on this PC
DeskScapes engine appears to be running
(SyncMaster P2770H/P2770FH (Digital)) 1 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
() 2 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
(Generic PnP Monitor) 3 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT

DreamTasks.exe 2010/09/24 12:01:26

Willing to help with any suggestions you would like to have me try.

No problem with those menus here. It's definitely not a WFX issue, or at least not for everyone.

WFX/WB interaction probably more accurate.

Exactly the same issue here!

Running a Samsung Series 7 700Z3A with two cards (AMD Radeon HD 6490M + Intel HD Graphics 3000). Maybe this has something to do with it? I have already set explorer.exe and dwm.exe to high performance mode in the siwtchable graphics configuration tool - unfortunately did not help. :(

I'm running windows 7 x64, latest updates installed, on a system with a Core i7 940 and two EVGA GTX 580 SC's in SLI. I was using the WinFX 5 Beta 2 with the Geforce drivers and all was fine. However, upon installing the new drivers for my video cards, any effect on a window and menu created by WinFX executes fine but there is a large black square, larger than the window or menu, behind the window/menu being manipulated. Below is a video of this. Let me know if you need additional info. I know the driver is a beta and thus probably going to cause such issues. I was just letting you know of this just in case nvidia altered something that could make it into a release driver and conflict with how you create these effects.

I was not aware the 301.x series drivers worked on anything but the 600 series graphics cards so we might be able to test it now and then yell at nvidia.

Hi,

Don't if this is the correct place to post this but I have downloaded the latest beta 2 install file and installed it but it refuses to allow me to register it.

It keeps on saying invalid serial number. I have checked the serial number and it is correct. I have even rerequested my Serial Numbers fro support to see if I had made a mistake.

Still get the same error.

Any Idea on how to solve this.

WinFX 5 Beta 2

Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit with SP 1.

Thanks.

Andrew Rindel.

Hi guys

first of all I LOVE your app.

My question is, why don't we have ALL the animations implemented available for each and every item? (ex: no "reverse suction from top left" for the Open start menu. My task bar is on the top edge of the screen).

There's no Open Animation option for the menus, I can customize only the the Close animation.

Specs: intel i7 2600K, 8Go DDR3, GTX 570 (drivers 296.10), Windows7 64.

FYI, the Beta 2 update 1 release fixed this for me. All 3 monitors on 2 cards running fine now.  Thanks.

Hi, I've just installed the latest WindowFX 5 RC1 on Windows 7 64-bit and every time I shut down/restart the system I get an explorer.exe application error that reads "The Instruction at XxXXXXXXXX referenced memory at XxXXXXXXXX, the memory could not be read." Once I terminate the process the system shuts down and reboots. Any ideas?

Thanks.

We would need to know the xxxxx values.

Sorry, the error reads 0x690152b0 both times.

Edit: The system seems to be stable other than Explorer crashing on every reboot.

Neil: I have a tra and ttt using the particle engines. I have set 4, and defined 4 ParticleEngine1,2,4 sections in the tra and 4 EMITT opcodes in the ttt, one each for 0,1,2 and 3.

Engines 2 and 3 don't seem to render.

I'm having the same problem...love the app...The instruction at 0x690152b0 reference memory at 0x690152b0.  The memory could not be written...

I would like to report that I too am getting the explorer crash on shutdown every time, same address as well.

Getting the same explorer crash, different address though: 0x69016fd0.

Unfortunately we have been totally unable to reproduce that explorer crash so we will need more information on what you might be running especially in terms of explorer addins.
