Help with DeskScapes

Help with DeskScapes

HI.

After 2 weeks of trying many thing, and suggestions, I had to, at least temporarily, uninstall Dreamscapes all together. No matter what I did it kept locking up my PC. Even disabling it did not work. Now with it fully uninstalled my system runs fine again.

All I run in the background is Norton 360, Malwarebytes, WindowBlinds (latest), Icon Packager and Cursorfx. All of which "should" play well together, with the possible exception of Norton. I am actually starting to get sick of this program. It is the free one from Xfinity and many people have complained because it is a massive program and does WAY more than just Anti-Virus, which is all I require of it. I had read/heard that the latest Comodo Internet Security is actually rated the best free one out there.

Questions: Are there any known issues with StarDock products and Norton as I doubt all the other Stardock products would not interfere with each other?

Where would you start to troubleshoot now that I can actually use my system?

Should I open a support ticket on this?

Thanks so much!!

Joe

3,650,000 results...that's a heap of ignoring, Giz...lol.

Yeah yeah...doesn't show the satisfied customers though. You will always have whiners. Type in "[insert whatever here] sucks" and you'll find tons of whiners about something. Not everyone has common sense when it comes to computers. I've seen these some of these people and they shouldn't even have a pc...probably shouldn't breed either. XD

So again...8 years...not one single problem on either XP or W7.

Now...running 2 different anti virus programs at the same time will surely cause problems. Hard to diagnose someone else's pc without knowing "everything" they have installed and running on it or what was repeatedly installed and uninstalled. And telling someone to uninstall something because you don't like it is not solving their problems either.

And I've yet to find any "free" Norton antivirus....lots of "free downloads" but nothing free.

Giz, even Joe said that Norton says it's Norton. Do you own stock or something?  ;P

No...no stock...I just don't jump on bandwagons and tell people to uninstall something because it didn't work for some people. If I did that I'd have to tell people that DX or WindowBlinds doesn't work either since that seemed to not work for some people as well. When it clearly works for others. Just like the whole XP is a bad thing crap when clearly it isn't.

And I actually don't have Norton installed anymore...due to lack of funds right now...but I would use it again since it worked fine...for me.

The reason I said uninstall Norton was because Joe felt that was the source of his problem (high number of queries of deskscapes causing his system to freeze).

This is OT:

What disturbs me about Norton is something I experienced as well. High rate of "warnings" which when put together with the below and the article I put up here: http://drjbhl.joeuser.com/article/414579/Norton_PC_Checkup_Tool  really give me pause regarding Symantec.

Black and white TV's, hand-cranked cars and dial telephones weren't "bad" either, just replaced by much better technology. ;)

The whole point is, clearly, there is a software conflict. Just trying to narrow it down to the most likely suspect.( other than user error)

If Norton said to uninstall the AV, then that's what I would do, but I wouldn't reinstall it if DS works with it gone. I would look elsewhere for an AV  program.

He also recommended adding Deskscapes and all the dreams, as those are the ones it lock up on, to the exclusion list as it rescans the dream file EVERY time it is refreshes, so that's thousands of times per screen.

That sounds like a very easy, cost-effective, and reasonable thing to try.  Did you try that?

Afterthought:  If you did or do try that, don't forget to also exclude the Dreams extraction folder, whatever it is on Win7.

Reviving old threads to repeat your request posted elsewhere is pointless. https://forums.wincustomize.com/430614/page/1/#3219330 tells you everything you need to know.
