Modders MP Zone

Archive of the pros versus modders game and current MP setup thread

As most of us know, there are two main communities in Sins of a Solar Empire, one for multiplayer and one for modding. Bar the occasional group of friends playing a mod on ICO together however, these two communities rarely interact with each other, besides occasional discussions of game balance.

Therefore I propose a little icebreaker in the true Sins fashion, complete with the typical disintegration of metal, screams of nuked worlds, and if we're lucky even the rare space pony sighting, that we've all come to know and love, regardless of which form of Sins we get most of our entertainment from. Yes, I think its time for the first ever Pro Player vs Modders MP game!

Of course as we are meeting in the Pro player's home court, I think in the interest of a semi-interesting game the modders will need a team advantage of some sort. Any ideas on the exact number of players on each team as well as the best time to arrange this will be welcome (I'd guess sometime on Thanksgiving weekend). And of course, if you're interested do let us know.

I'd like to have one pro player sort of be in charge of the logistics of making the game who promises to be there, presumably if any of the other pros don't show we can find substitutes at the game launch. As modders don't often log on to ICO don't commit unless you're sure you can make it at whatever time we agree on. Also if possible I think it would be nice for as many different mods as possible to be represented, but obviously filling the roster comes first.

I'd love to put the inhibitors there but that's one of those items Ironclad inexplicably neglected to allow placement of--just like phase gates.  Bad oversight if you ask me. Personally, I think Pirate bases should have a phase inhibitor effect as a planet ability anyway.

Yes--the non-Vasari have to chew through the pirate bases to get to the resource areas--and access to the Vasari HW's.

I'm titling the next revision Wolfpack and it includes:

Additional starting resources for the non-Vasari players.
Map additions for FFA play.
Starting capital ship choice for the Vasari.
Increased initial Vasari scout numbers.
Quick start options.
Re-worked lanes to make the Vasari hit-and-run a little more effective.
More resource asteroid systems past the pirates
Additional garrison forces near Allied mining colonies.

Hopefully, this will speed the action up quite a bit but keep the "long fight" feel alive.

I'm ready to break your pirate blockade whenever we play this next ;)

Okie--should be interesting.  The map has been very reworked to try to make it compatible for a greater number of players.  It also has more resources and the like to allow it to move a little faster.

Still these pie rats are hungry and if you go into their room and forget your matches you are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Oh--and the "Allies" now start with 12 colonizer frigates each.  My bad before.  Now they can compete some for the resource asteroids in the area before reinforcements can reach them.

Sounds like a painful map... I like.

You know, we get a lot of fun maps with mods and there's the randoms too, but there is so much potential for map packs that tends to get overlooked in favor of doing mods. Point is that if there were some vanilla designed mods (or even some with openings for mods to insert planet types) that came in large packs, they would be loved and even if inserted into the original game files, wouldn't have any negative affect on the program.

So... anyone know some good map packs?

Oh, and what are people thinking for this upcoming weekend?

Darvin has a really b ig map pack floating around on one of his threads.  So far people have still seem interested in the above map (I'm biased of course).

I'll be there nlt 9pm est.

Ditto if I can swing it. I don't think there is anything major happening so it should be a go. Big issue holding back map-packs that ICO doesn't support them directly (via download or otherwise).

They don't support mods either, but we are rocking strong.

KrdaxDrkrun and I are on the TS channel. Either DS, Sinperium's Map, or plain Vanilla sounds good.
