Modders MP Zone

Archive of the pros versus modders game and current MP setup thread

As most of us know, there are two main communities in Sins of a Solar Empire, one for multiplayer and one for modding. Bar the occasional group of friends playing a mod on ICO together however, these two communities rarely interact with each other, besides occasional discussions of game balance.

Therefore I propose a little icebreaker in the true Sins fashion, complete with the typical disintegration of metal, screams of nuked worlds, and if we're lucky even the rare space pony sighting, that we've all come to know and love, regardless of which form of Sins we get most of our entertainment from. Yes, I think its time for the first ever Pro Player vs Modders MP game!

Of course as we are meeting in the Pro player's home court, I think in the interest of a semi-interesting game the modders will need a team advantage of some sort. Any ideas on the exact number of players on each team as well as the best time to arrange this will be welcome (I'd guess sometime on Thanksgiving weekend). And of course, if you're interested do let us know.

I'd like to have one pro player sort of be in charge of the logistics of making the game who promises to be there, presumably if any of the other pros don't show we can find substitutes at the game launch. As modders don't often log on to ICO don't commit unless you're sure you can make it at whatever time we agree on. Also if possible I think it would be nice for as many different mods as possible to be represented, but obviously filling the roster comes first.

As close as you will ever get. :P

Not that I can say much in that department myself.

Well, it was more of a response to Stant's measurement standard.

And 2 inches away means I'm either a very good stalker or she needs to scooch forward on the dresser.

Funny.

Okay, so I'm still out for the weekend. I might pop in late to catch up, but no promises and I certainly won't catch the main attraction. Later.

I'll probably be around if you need replacement.

Like I said before, there's a 75% I'll be on later in the evening around 10pm EST. I can't make it before that. I'm set for Vanilla & DS Mod, anything else I will need 4 hours advanced notice to download. :-)

I'll have my fixed funky map edit up in time to for anyone wanting it.  Working on it again now

Man...speaking of this--why is it every time I do something intricate I find another game bug?  It's like a curse.

Despite this, I fixed the map--after hours of recreating and retesting it.  It turns out that if you have a lot of wormholes with a percent chance of spawning or not...and then build another set of WH's in the same star system but warping out of it to another star system..those WH's end up with the same chance of having working lanes.  So In system "A", a fair number of WH's have a 50% chance to spawn.  The other WH's in that system that go out to star system "B" are in place as they should be--but their lanes have the same percent chance to spawn as the other WH's with random spawn chances.

If you found that confusing, try being me tonight.  Since these lanes had only a 10% spawn chance it took me about 20 retries to finally figure out what was going on.

I deserve a medal and am going to bed now.  I swapped the WH's themselves from having a chance to spawn to their lanes only and it's all full of love now.

I should be about tomorrow eve--certainly by 9pm EST and perhaps before.  I'll post the map up in the morn.

Lol...I like this darn it.

Turns I I've been feeling kind of cruddy and we aren't going out to dinner tonight. Guess I'll be on, trying out my new system. :-P

Then why are you not pew pew ing with me, like now.

Oooh...new system Boshmi!

Ok, here's the link to the Vasari wolfpack-style map.  Debugged (and darn if GF didn't glitch the whole thing again but I fixed it).

I didn't have time for pretty planet names (darn...but later) and the pirate gauntlet may be a bit heavy (it can be altered after some play testing).  My wife's not feeling well either (me either) but I should be on later.

The map description tells you all the main points for setup.  The Vasari have the wormhole travel artifact on their HW's so you don't kill yourself by missing that research.

Vasari are like the poor Colonials in BSG...on the run, unsupported and desperately outnumbered.  Your only hope is to eat enemy trade ships until you can begin a fleet and collaborate to survive.

The "Allied" players opposing the Vasari are behind a five system, reinforced pirate blockade and have only an asteroid for initial production.  Fertile worlds--and the ability to wormhole travel lie on the far side of the pirates--if you can ever survive traveling through them.

Allies, you'll want that trade income so I wouldn't ditch your bases.  All sides should beware dead-end systems that can be entered but never left.  Scouting is essential.  The crafty Vasari have mapped a plethora of sneaky wormhole routes to your outer colonies--be prepared for you built it and now they come.  Get lucky and take out their caps early and it's game over.  Build a fleet to pass the pirates and you're on your way to eliminating the Vasari scourge.

This map is all about effective use of assets...economic and military.  It looks to be a long one so fast settings aren't discouraged.

Trade and pirate levels can be altered pending some play through and feedback and I'll have quick start options for the rework on it after.

Enjoy (hopefully)--I'll be there later tonight.
