price for rebellion

Just curious....

I own most of stardock games so this is not a flame, but it seems the price for this new addition coming out seems a bit steep for the info about what is being added. I mean I could be wrong, I have yet to see an "offical" list of options beyond whats on the store page. I know how stardock loves to last min cool features :), but just curious on the price. I mean, don't take me wrong frog and team, I am a huge fan, but it seems a bit steep for an addon expansion. I might be missing the big cost in this one, so thats why I am asking. For me, 20 bucks seems more like an expansion price, unless said expansion adds something huge. New bases per race and a couple of ships seems more like a dlc. Again not flaming, I am really interested to know. All the other expansions in my eyes where worth the price, this one thou, seems a bit small in comparison. Is it the graphic over-hull? Will it be that big of a differance? Any info would be great, thou I know your limited in what you willing to talk about.

Agreed, $40 does seem like a bit much.

Luckily, I did manage to pre-order it for $30 though, but that discount has expired.

yea, I might even go 30 for it, I still play the game, but alas 40? eh too high.

Well, Rebellion is "original sins + entrenchment + diplomacy + rebellion"... $40 is not so much for a full game and 3 expansion...

Well, i think that the move from shader 2.0 to shader 3.0 imply a huge rework of all the graphic engine... they have speak about a better collision detection and path finding too... they are working on the Goafan request who will add custom map sharing for multiplayer... among other thing who will improve the game but that we will not directly see onscreen...

Seem that Rebellion will be more that a simple expansion who only add some new content to a already existing game...

For these who know the game, remember "Supreme Commander : Forged alliance"... was a stand alone too, with a more high price that a simple expansion... was not only adding a new faction but a lot of change was made in the core engine too... i have never regret the tag price of SCFA ( not true about SC II ) and i bet that i will not regret the price tag of Rebellion...

Below, a modified review from "Supreme Commander : Forged Alliance" who can be apply to Rebellion :

If you're a SupCom  soase player, think of this as pretty much your dream patch for the game, but with the unfortunate but understandable addition of a price-tag. If you're an RTS fan who hasn't played SupCom soase yet, this is without doubt a better place to start. It's more polished, it's more varied and, with the Seraphim Rebellion's big'n'shiny toys in there too, it's space wargaming on the most jawdropping scale there is.

For those who've been loyal customers and already have bought Vanilla, Entrenchment, and Diplomacy, those customers are having to pay $40 for an expansion's-worth of new content - which is some, but not enough to justify $40.

A new player paying $40 Rebellion for a standalone expansion-game makes sense, but having those who've already bought Vanilla, Entrenchment, and Diplomacy also pay the same somewhat-high amount (if they didn't want to preorder, for good reasons) for only a moderate amount of new content and improvements doesn't sound quite right.

I'd agree the $30 price was a bit high (I think $20 is about right for the upgraders among us), but I bought it anyway because I enjoy the game and I'm sure the new content will improve it even more.  However, I think the $40 price is reasonable for new sales.  If you look at all the new addition and the changes being made, this is a much bigger expansion than the others.

Well, the preorder thing was bugged... was not accepting to stack the 10$ reduction due to the numerous time i have order the previous expansion... was hoping to have rebellion for free...

Ok, i am joking... of course i regret that Rebellion is not released in the same way that Diplomacy/Trinity... a Rebellion/Quadrinity will have be great... and cheaper for my wallet...

Problem is that devs have work on sins for almost 4 year, with only two very cheap expansion for finance their real life... devs pay rent, need to eat, take care of family, and more; like everybody...

When i look at other game DLC who ask a few $$ for a single custom helmet or a new gun, i choose to pay a little more for a quality expansion pack...Hey, for the total war shogun 2 + all expansion, i have spend almost 100 euro in less that one year... two time more that what i have spend for soase in 4 years ( don't count the gift version to other peoples )

Maybe Stardock/Ironclad need to use the Eve system for soase? 35 euro for a 2 month prepaid scratch card... or 131 euro for 1 year...

In the last 4 year, i have enjoy soase + Ent + Dip during a huge amount of hours, for a price tag equal to 2 evening at a cafe, or equal to 2 audio CD, or equal 4 films at cinema, etc...

By the way, nobody is obligated to buy Rebellion... i have not preorder it and i will not enjoy a lower price... but if Rebellion have everything that Devs have promise, i will be happy to pay the full price...

I get it, but for an addon when I have the other 3 is just to steep, If it goes down around 25-30 I will get it. The improvments sound great and I would love to pay for the hard work and all, but in the end it's "value vs play" and as it currently stands I like SoSe as is. I mean from what I remember the last "expansion" was indeed the "last expansion". This is a happy suprise, but the price is a bit steep for such an addition. I appreciate all the feedback and getting to understand what is involved with this new release. Would love to have a graphic upgrade etc, but eh for 40bucks? nah I will pass. Sorry stardock and frog, I just can't see the value it will add to my game at that price.

edit: now if this is the complete game at 40, that would make sense, but for an upgrade when I own the rest? 25-30 I would be willing, just re-enforcing the statements before as I agree with them.

Well, people who have pre-order and who have the previous expansion have it  at 30$...

The 40$ is a "day one" price... with time, it will drop... As today, you can have Trinity ( soase + ent + dip ) for less that 20$ ( cheaper that the two expansion buy in a separate way ) ...

Pretty sure that Rebellion will follow a similar path... simply wait a few months after release and i bet that you will be able to find Rebellion at half the launch price... along with already some patch who correct some possible bug and some mod who will be already upgraded to Rebellion...

Not very different of a film premiere in cinema where ticket price is double or triple from the usual price at a later time...

True that, I mean I will wait if that's what it will take, rather not, but alas that will the companies choice. Anyways, end of thread, thnx for the info and discussion everyone !
