Stardock needs a lesson in honest marketing. Identify which products won't work on 64-bit Windows.

Long time customer upset over lack of warnings from Stardock.

I'll keep this simple - I like Stardock.  I've purchased and played the games they have offered for years.

Recently I upgraded to a brand spanking new computer.  For work reasons, I had 64-bit windows 7 installed.  After installing impulse and re-downloading the entire GALCIV collection (again), I was shocked to find it would not run.  Tried everything.  No dice.

Sadly I realize it was time to move on from my favourite game.  I need the power of the new system for work-related projects, and CIV V is so damned sexy on the new system.

As an online marketer in the software field (corporate stuff) I get the absolute importance about being honest to your customers.  It's misleading to sell something you KNOW will not work properly on a new computer.  As simple banner, or warning would suffice.

I'm not mad at losing the game (from my computer).  I get software companies cannot plan for systems that come out 2-3 years after a product is released.  It's not their responsibility to go back to legacy software and and provide updates when a new OS hits the market.  More importantly, they are not psychic and cannot predit which OS will be the next big thing.

Bet you a round of beers they are very quickly adapting to the iPad market.  I know we have.

So I offer this bit of advice:  Games like GALCIV or MOO will sell to fanatics like myself - even more so if they can function on multi-threading, i7 12-GB monster with Windows 7  64-bit.

Strange.  I have 64 bit Windows 7 as well and it runs fine for me.  Try running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP and see if that helps.

Me too.  I have 64bit Windows 7 and it runs here just fine.

I had some issues myself on 64-bit.  Had to uninstall and reinstall twice (and yes, I checked compatibility mode) before it would fire up, but it got there eventually.  I just chalked it up to "product wasn't designed for it, but I got there in the end."

I can't get Sins of a Solar Empire to run under Windows 7. It seems to install, though perhaps it is significant that it does not ask me for a certification code, but when I run it I just get a blank screen, oh, and a cursor! Some one suggested my Doc Nortons Firewall is the problem but I can update the game just fine through Impulse; I just can't run it! Help, please. X(
