System Tray

I have created a dock that just holds my system tray icons, using OD plus on Win 7 64 bit.  Most of the regular icons are clickable as if they were on the regular windows 7 tray except for the windows ones, ie the windows update, wifi icon, etc.  Any ideas?

Thanks

what OD plus 2.X  or 1.97

I am on win 7 64 bit with Object Dock 1.9 Plus

so don't know if it will work if you have the NEWER Version

Just change the name of the file you want from the info below (a.k.a  change this dfrgui.exe file to the one or ones you want )

Open this folder location C:\Windows\System32\dfrgui.exe

Right Click on dfrgui.exe then click on Send to then Click on Desktop (Create Shortcut)

It will show as dfrgui.exe – Shortcut you can rename it to whatever you like.

Example dfrgui now Make a new folder on the Desktop name it whatever.

I will use Defrag. Now move dfrgui to the Defrag folder.

Right Click on Defrag folder then click on Send to then Click on Desktop

(Create Shortcut)

It will then be named Defrag – Shortcut move it to the Dock.

Now you can Delete Defrag – Shortcut folder on the Desk top NOT DEFRAG folder

Now Right Click on the Defrag – Shortcut folder on the dock click on

Dock Entry Properties

You can rename the folder here to Defrag

Then click OK.

You can even change the Icon for the folder here to.

Here’s the Catch you have to KEEP the Defrag Folder on the desk top too.

But you can hide desktop Icons.

and Yes It Works...  as for OD + 2.?  I can't say I don't have that one....

OH and yes you can add more to that folder just do all the same steps Except making a new folder

just for the one's that are giving you a hard time with...

Hope this help you out ... I know it's a ROUND about way but it works  and XP users can do this Work Around tooo

I have the 2.0 version of OD plus.  I will try what you suggest, but I am not sure that is what I want.  In Windows 7, there are several OS system tray icons, that do show up on an OD system tray tool bar, they are just not left clickable.  On the normal Win7 tray for example, if you left click the network icon, it brings up a list of available network connections.  I use this to "dial" in to different VPN connections.  Also, when there are updates, the updates are ready icon pops up, but it is not clickable.  I don't show the volume control nor the action center, but my guess is that they do not work either.  I think there was one other, I am at work and don't have a Win7 box to look at, but I mainly use the network icon and windows update icons.  Also, on another note, how do you add a shortcut to a cpl (control panel link), or for that matter, if I make a shortcut to my VPN connections onto an OD toolbar, they do not work.  VPN shortcuts look like they point to a namespace instead of an actual program.

Thanks again for any and all help

go to the Control Panel Right click on Network and Sharing Center then click on Create Shortcut on this one and some other you can move it to the dock but

if you delete the one on the desktop then it will not work so that is why some you will have to do what I said in post 1

side notes:

Windows Update this one works without all the BS but you will have to give it an Icon cause on 1.97 it is only a blank Icon

on some you will have to go into C:\Windows\system32 and know what MS calls them in there (Example I will use Windows Update is called wuapp.exe in C:\Windows\system32)

so if any don't work after you

1) move it to the dock and delete the one on the Desktop  ... A folder will be needed and to stay on the desktop

2) if it will let you when you Right click on it and say send to - Desktop create shortcut  and if it don't work then you will have to know what it is called in C:\Windows\system32 and on some you will have to do all in post 1

I was able to get these to work without having to put them in folders

Control Panel  by going to Start menu RIGHT clicking on it then click on SHOW ON DESKTOP icon stayed intact

Windows Update by going to Start menu All Programs RIGHT clicking on it then click send to - Desktop create shortcut icon did not stay intact

NOT THIS ONE

Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel  right click then click create shortcut  .. icon stayed intact ..  a copy if it has to stay on the desktop or fence or put into a folder and then you can hide desktop icons

That's kind of what I was doing, just thought there might be a better way, like maybe someone created a nice docklet to bring up some of these MS internal programs.  All the non-MS programs in the tray all seem to respond to left and right clicks.

Thanks

well if you have DesktopX 4 their might be some that way...

ya MS did something to 7's MS internal programs.

you could try RockDock it's free there's might work.

I don't know if OD+ 2.X is a fully 64 bit program support 64 bit is not the same as a full 64 bit program
