5/1/2011–2v2 Demigod Cash Tournament

5/1/2011–2v2 Demigod Cash Tournament

Special note:  this is currently slated to be our last cash prize tournament.  Previous contributions for cash prizes have been generously provided by Stardock and the community.  We’ve been using those funds for cash prizes for the past few tournaments.  After this tournament, the prize pool will be emptied.  There’s still potential that we may have cash tournaments or tournaments without prizes in the future, but this is all we have scheduled at the moment.

Update – Registration is now open:  http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66

Update - Check in is live

Update - the tournament is over.  Congrats to:

TSK-Rin and ppapanek!!!

Tournament

For those of you that have not been following along, we have been running tournaments every 2 weeks for 2v2 and 3v3 competition.  Some of the tournaments will be for cash prizes.  Others will be just for fun.  See the schedule below and sign up.  I’ll open a new post for each and every tournament.

What is the schedule?

We will generally have a tourney every 2 weeks – so put it on your calendar and plan accordingly.

  • 2/20/2011 – 2v2 Practice Tourney (Single Elimination)– Noon EST
  • 3/6/2011 – 3v3 Practice Tourney (Single Elimination) – Noon EST
  • 3/20/2011 – 2v2 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – Noon EST
  • 4/3/2011 – 3v3 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – 1 PM EST
  • 5/1/2011 – 2v2 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – 2 PM EST

What are the rules?

Each tournament will have varied rules.  They will be announced approximately 1 week before the tourney begins.  Here are the rules for the upcoming practice tournament.

  • The tournament is 2v2 and all are welcome
  • The tournament is double elimination
  • No doubles are allowed
  • 1 player may choose any DGs they want
  • The other player must choose any Demigod EXCEPT Oak/Erebus/UB
  • The map is cataract using default settings (AI settings will be on low gold/xp and high HP)
  • When the brackets are created (this happens right at the start of the tourney), the team that is on the top of the bracket will be on the light side and the team below them will be on the dark side
  • Teams will pick their dgs 1 by 1.  The light side must pick 1 dg and ready up.  Then the dark side must pick 1 dg and ready up.  Then the dark side must pick their 2nd dg and ready up.  Then light side must pick their final dg and ready up.  So, light/dark/dark/light.  You MAY NOT change your demigods after you click ready.
  • For each following game, the team that finished their game in the previous match in the shortest amount of time may choose which side they want
  • In the event that your team is playing in a losers bracket (both teams have a loss and are now playing each other), the team that lost their previous match with the longer running time is on dark
  • All players must use uberfix 1.05 (you can download it here:  http://www.box.net/shared/qf7lhj1zjl)
  • All players MUST register using www.JeeLounge.com – you CANNOT participate if you do not create an account there
  • Replays for all games must be uploaded to the Jee site by someone on the winning team.  This can easily be done when you report your results in on the Jee site.

What is the prize?

  • 1st place – $150 ($75 per person)
  • 2nd place – $50 ($25 per person)
  • 3rd place – $20 ($10 per person)

Payouts will be delivered by PayPal.  If you don’t have a PayPal account, get one.  If you can’t get one, then you need to make arrangements with your teammate.  If you can’t do that, then you will not receive a payout for the cash prizes if you win.  If you do win, provide me with your team’s PayPal addresses via pm on these forums and we will get you sorted in short order.  If the needed PayPal email addresses have not been provided in 1 week, the prize money is forfeit and will be added back to community tournament prize pool.  Cash is rendered via PayPal in US dollars.  If you are from another country, the conversion is provided by PayPal.  Any fee charged by PayPal will come directly out of your winnings (so its possible the winners could receive less than the listed payout).

Additional information about the community prize pool:  once the funds run out for the pool, we’ll solicit contributions from the community and see if Stardock is willing to contribute again.

How do I get setup on JeeLounge? (Skip this if you already created an account on the site)

If you haven’t registered on the Jee sites yet, just follow these 3 simple instructions below.  You’ll still need to register for tournaments, etc, but this will get you added to the system.  You only need to register and setup your account 1 time (eg you don’t have to do this ever again)

  1. Go to www.JeeLounge.com and create an account.
  2. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/teamdg/group/home/ and request membership to our Demigod group (called TeamDG).
  3. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/user/favorites/1/games Click on about me.  Click on games.  Then fill in info for demigod and set yourself to active.

How do I form a team on the JeeLounge Site?

  1. Find a teammate.  You can use this thread, pm’s, or whatever you want to track down a partner.  You can even use the Jee site to send pm’s to anyone that has already joined the teamDG group.
  2. Post in THIS thread letting us know that you will be participating and who is on your team.
  3. Once you have found a team, login to the JeeLounge site and click on Network (its on the bar that shows home/about me/network/stats, etc near the top of the page).
  4. Click on create a clan (only 1 person on your team needs to do this)
  5. Call the clan whatever you want and fill in whatever info you want.  Be sure to set membership condition to free.  That will create your clan.
  6. Next, send an invitation to your teammate.  Once they accept your invitation, you will see them in your clan.
  7. Click on create team.  Call the team whatever you want.
  8. After its created, click on edit members and add your teammate to your team and you are done.

How do I register for the tournament?

  1. Click here for the tourney page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66).  Whoever is the team leader on your team has to do this.
  2. Click on sign up and select your team from the drop down box.  Then click ok.  You are registered.

What is check in?

We use a process called check in for our tournaments.  The purpose of check in is so that we know that teams that registered for the tournament are actually ready to play their games.  We also use the check in process so that only teams indicating that they are present are placed on the brackets.  This makes it much easier to get the tournament started (instead of waiting around and hoping your opponent shows up).  Be aware that even if a team has registered for a tournament, if they do not check in, they cannot participate in the tournament.    The check in period is 45 minutes before the tournament starts.

How do I check in?

  1. Click on the following link to the tournament page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66)
  2. Click on the check in icon.
  3. Choose your team from the drop down box.
  4. Click ok.

What do I do the day of the tournament?

  1. Check in anytime 45 minutes before the tournament begins (see above)  – remember, if you team doesn’t check in, you can’t play
  2. Once the tournament officially begins (2 PM EST), check out the brackets page to see who your team is playing first (remember, if you are on top in the bracket, your team is on the light side)
  3. Host a game for your opponent to join or join a game they have hosted
  4. Play your game
  5. Report your win and upload a replay of the game
  6. Check the brackets again and see who you are playing next.  If your opponents are still in game, just host a lobby asking them to join and wait for them to wrap up their game.

How do I report my wins?

  1. Go to the tournament page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66)
  2. Click on the game you just played
  3. Fill in the win/loss results (its pretty self explanatory)
  4. Upload the replay (the replay will be your last game save if you do this immediately after winning)

Disqualifications

Thankfully, we have not had a need to disqualify any teams yet during our tournaments, but here are the ground rules.

  1. Intentionally desyncing a game will result in a forfeit.  If you believe this has occurred, send me a copy of your DemigodLog.txt file.  I’ll request some additional files if needed.  Hopefully we can continue to keep this nonsense out of our tournaments going forward.
  2. Long delays between matches.  The goal of these single elimination tournaments are to have a series of quick games – not to make players wait on you until you are ready or feel like playing.  All players that want to participate are expected to be ready starting at noon EST and until they are either eliminated or win the tournament.  Games should all be started within 30 minutes (eg if game 1 of the tourney has not started after 30 minutes, the team that is not ready will be disqualified.  So, please be considerate of everyone else’s time and be ready to play!

qot da? that would be one weird ass mirror match

sedna ub if u have rook ub up there..  occ erebus    ub tb

Dont think it makes sense to only allow certain combos. If you dont want to have another Sedna/UB tourney then either add Sedna to the list of Oak/Erb/UB that cant be combined OR if you want something really different then dont allow Oak/Erb/UB AT ALL plus no doubles. That would leave 21 possible combos for the other 7 DGs.

Just a quick bump.  There will be restrictions on dg selections for this tournament.  What those restrictions are still remains to be decided.  Any feedback is certainly welcomed, but the bottom line is that we will have restrictions in place.

Some options that might be fun or  at least interesting to try:

1. Must choose demigods aligned to the your side, Light side must be light demigods and dark must be dark demigods.

2. 50/50 random, one player from both sides must be random either general or  assassin other team member must select a demigod from the other type so no doubles.

3. Full random no doubles each team has one random assassin and one random general.

4. No doubles at all - no one can select the same demigod even if on another team, light sides gets first pick, dark side gets next 2 picks light side gets last pick.

Not going to happen in a cash tourney,  it is so unbalanced

Just curious which options would be unbalanced and why.

The reasons these suggestions are a bit unbalanced is that 1) not everyone is excellent with all dgs.  2) not all dg combos are as strong as others (take for instance oak/erebus vs reg/da - the odds are in favor of oak/ereb).  3) while random does give you the luck of the draw, again, not all folks can play each dg well.  So, that gives a distinct advantage to any team that has 2 players that are capable with all dgs vs another team that is not.

Anyway, those are just a few reasons.  Don't get me wrong - I like playing games like those and find them fun (random assassin is one of my favorite types of games, for instance - specifically because I could end up against 3 ubs as a reg/da/rook, etc), but it just likely handicaps teams that can't play all dgs well.  That's why in the last few tournaments, we've always had 1 person that could pick any dg that they want and another would have to pick a specific dg.

Anyway, we need to bottom out the dg selection rules asap, though.

I want this bottomed out asap as I might not have a lot of time this week due to work fun.

Here is my very simple suggestion.

Each team can pick 1 dg from this list (you don't have to, but you can):  Erb/Oak/UB

The other player on that team can then pick any DG that is not erb/oak/ub.

Will what I'm suggesting result in most of the teams picking the exact same combo or will it result in some variety?  I think this suggestion will force some lesser used combos, but still provide quite a bit of variety.  We likely won't see reg/da using this, but so be it.

I'll give it one more day to see if anyone has any more feedback.  The only thing I want to ensure we don't have is the same combos being used over and over again - I'm hoping we can see some variety in dg selection.

Not necessarily, Oak+Rook and Erebus+Rook is pretty strong as well.

ok good - as long as there is some variety (the magic goal would be to create A LOT of variety).  As long as we aren't playing sedna/ub every damn game, that works.

Jona - I'm sorry, but the tourney is going to be this weekend.  We've already postponed it a bit and from my experience, dragging things out even further will result in less folks (that's why we TRIED to stick with the every 2 weeks tourney deal so folks could save the time).  Anyway, just keep in mind that the tourney's have wrapped up after 4-5 hours tops historically and its in the afternoon.  And you have a bit of time to prepare and study in the meantime, so please just adjust.  Anyway, for all I know, the tourney could be very quick anyway - I personally know of 2 teams that are registering.

Side note - We are sticking the with DG selection rules I described, so please practice away with those combos if you want.  I think Kalel and I will be on tomorrow night and accepting challenges from anyone wanting to get some practice in based on tourney rules.

I WILL get the tourney page posted by (probably on) wednesday so you can officially register at that time.

Thanks for the bump - completely slipped my mind yesterday.  I just now created the tournament, registration is officially open, and I have updated the OP.

Thanks a lot. We will sign up later on tonight.

Another small question: Initially the rule was no doubles. From your last allowed combo rules you can read that there are for sure no UB/OAK/Erb doubles but can we play lets say with 2 Sednas?

I'll make an OP update to clarify - but no - there are no doubles in this tournament period.

Hey.

I cannot participate in tourney this Sunday evening, so my teammate SLEDGE71 doesn't have a partner at the moment. Anyone willing to team up with him, please pm him.

Thanks for considering but by now I found a new partner. See you all at the tournament.
