buying used

Hello.  I have interest in purchasing galactic civilizations.  however, I find that the price of buying a new copy+expansions, even in a set, is rather exorbitant (do not tell me it's worth the price.  I've played this game before, it's years old, and it's not worth 60$.  Space Empires V I bought for 15$, and it's way better than this game; I don't need some fanboy telling me it's worth the money).

So, I look to buy used.  I would like to ask, how would that work?  With impulse, can you recycle a key?  How likely am I to come across an unpatchable dud?  What are my prospects for purchasing a used edition of the game?

Also, any word if this game will ever be available on steam?  I find steam quite convenient, and, let's be honest, it's not at all different than impulse.  Maybe Stardock could own up to this so I won't have to have an account on yet another DRM medium.  Steam is fine for me, I don't need to manage another online store account.

Thank you for any information you can provide to me.

You can't "recycle" a key for the game, and it would most likely not be accepted.

GalCiv will not be on Steam, Impulse is Stardock's digital distribution platform.  Impulse just needs to be installed to install/update a game, and isn't required to be running to play the games.

Gal Civ II Ultimate is only $40 which includes the expansions - http://www.impulsedriven.com/galciv2ul

Gal Civ I Ultimate is only $10 - http://www.impulsedriven.com/products/ESD-SDS-W224

Galactic Civilizations won't be on Steam, huh?  Stardock is always so full of it.

And it's cheaper on Steam, too.

BTW, for a company that claims to support its games long after release, TotA sure had a lot of bugs and typos.

Things change. Mostly for the better.

Stardock still sees your coin, cheap or not.

Be happy with the changes, it's worked out well for you it would seem!

No, it didn't, because I ended up buying it for forty dollars, even though it was in desperate need of some QA.

I had my fun with the game, but the combat system was abominable.  Also, the supposedly smart AI that wouldn't be fooled by piling up lower level techs also rejected lower level techs that granted big stat boosts.

Loved the indie civs, though.  Other games should do stuff like that.

Finally, if anybody here wants to play a decent space 4x game, I suggest Space Empires V with the balance mod.  Freaking amazing.
