3 separate threads relating to one  single skin upload is probably a little over-kill ...;)

Same thing happened to me this morning when I clicked on a link in another thread...BUT I DO NOT have AVG!  So, it makes me think it is a trogan...how else would I get AVG alerting me to malware?  I think we both caught another dang trogan like the one I wrote about in the forums last week.  I am gonna run MalwareBytes to see if it comes up with anything, and will post back here my results.

I ran avg after but I also let what I thought was avg do it's thing when it happened. the avg scan turned up this;

running MalwareBytes after this turned no additional concerns.

I'm wondering since we have the same problem but from differenct posts if it's not a problem within the forums, you know like the forums could be corrupted??

I checked the OP's link....it was fine...though it did have a pop-under online poker gaming crap page load.

For future reference...if people wish to upload previews of what their new skin may look like...well...that's the entire/whole reason for the existence of the 'screenshot' gallery here.

There's no need to use image hosting sites with whatever 'nasties' of promotion/advertising they might force upon you....;)

Okay,  I ran MalwareBytes.  This is what I got:

Registry Values Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Associations\bak_Application (Hijacker.Application) -> Value: bak_Application -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Registry Data Items Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Associations\Application (Hijacker.Application) -> Bad: (http://www.helpmeopen.com/?n=app&ext=%s) Good: (http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/%04x/xml/redir.asp?Ext=%s) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Folders Infected:
(No malicious items detected)

Files Infected:
c:\Users\mary jane\Desktop\explorer.exe (Heuristics.Reserved.Word.Exploit) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I have no idea...but we both got infected from clicking on an outside link.  I hope the mods see this and look into it.  I won't be clicking any more outside links till the mystery is solved.

Jafo, there is no other way to post a picture within the forums unless we use an image hosting site to do so.

I foolishly downloaded the file that came up with "fake" avg warning which included a reboot. I ran avg first thing after the reboot which caught that referenced above,

damn, I hope there's no damage done here.

gmc2 ....the WHOLE REASON for the Wicustomize SCREENSHOT Gallery is for images/screenshots of skins such as this one.

neone6 could have posted/uploaded the screenshot here and added it to the forum/thread without the need for offsite linking at all ....;)

Okay, so I run Norton 360 and get a notice also.  Is this saying that ImagieShack has been corrupted?  :S

^ Exactly. The off site image hosting sites are for images not suitable to be put in the screenshots gallery... like Happy Birthday gifs, family pictures...those that are non skinning related.

I went to look and got no warnings, and then ran an antimalware butes scan... nothing turned up.

Reply #13 Top

Jafo, I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. there is no gallery picture under windowblinds for neone6's wb and there is no return result for neone6 when searched for.

the link yes but in order to post the picture you still have to use the outside/third party source to do so, correct?

I also did a system restore, just to, hopefully, be sure.

Doc, we're posting pictures of skinning related issues all the time and let's not forget WIP's...

Gmc2....what Jafo is saying is if you want to lets say...post a "sneak peek" or "WIP" of a skin such as what the poster did here...you first upload it to the "screenshots" gallery...then click on the image in the gallery itself...copy the url and then you can post it here in the forums "without" using third party image hosting sites.

Unless of course it's just a gif or some other image of something you woudn't want or can't post in the screenshots gallery. In that case yes...you would have to use a third party image hosting site. Hope that clearred that up. :grin:

Yes, Web's correctamundo...;)

Over the [ten] years that there's been a 'screenshot' gallery it's use has been overtaken by people wanting to display how cute/sexy their latest desktop assemblage of various skins looks, more-so than being THE PLACE for the upload of WIPs and sneak-peeks of skinners' new works.

The former is handy -  hence the monthly desktop screenshots thread, but the latter is the real reason there is a screenshot gallery at all.....  so skinners can upload and have early feedback and/or bug-stomping of skinning issues....;)
