Use Objectdock without the mouse

Guys,

This is not a question, it's more like a suggestion. :)

Would you consider a way to use Objectdock without the mouse? That would be fantastic! :)

For example, a combination of keys would activate Objectdock, mainly if it were hidden. Then, we could navigate through the icons, using the keyboard arrows. The zoom (or any other) effect would still work. Actually, everything would work normally. The only difference would be the non-use of the mouse. That's it.

What do you think?

Thanks for your attention.

P.S.: If this post is in the wrong session, please move it to the right place. Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't believe this is something that is likely to happen. ObjectDock is designed around mouse use, so keyboard controls are more of a nice-to-have. I will add this to the suggestion list, however. Thanks again.

I see. Well, how about an option for hotspots, instead? For example, when the dock is hidden, it would only be shown again if the mouse pointer was placed at the bottom-left corner. That would be the only hotspot to activate the dock. Of course, it would be configurable. We would choose our own hotspot(s). I hope you like the idea.

Cheers,

It can already show on mouse hover (I have mine hidden at bottom I move the move to the bottom it shows)

and it has a hot spot too not sure if it's that kind of hot spot

Let me tell you what I've been through, and maybe you can agree with me on the hotspot suggestion.

I use my superbar (Windows 7 taskbar) on the top and the dock on the bottom, centered. It hides when I maximize a program. So far, that's OK.

For example, I'm using Google Chrome. I enter a website and want to copy a long text from there. Then, I click on the first word of the text and move the mouse pointer down to the bottom edge of the program to select the whole text. As the Chrome window is maximized, the bottom edge of the program is also the edge of my screen. Once the mouse pointer reaches that bottom edge and stay there for a while (because I'm waiting for the page to scroll down until the end of the text), the dock comes up (of course).

Summarizing, that's what I'm talking about. The dock comes up even when I don't want it to. On that example, you can see that the fact that the mouse is positioned on the bottom edge has nothing to do with the dock. The pointer is there because it has to be. There's no other way to select the whole text if I don't do that. Unless I don't use a maximized window, but this is ridiculous. I shouldn't adapt to the dock. The dock should adapt to me. It should offer me options to avoid this kind of issue. Hotspots would do the trick. Or, my first suggestion, call it from the keyboard, not mouse (or both, why not?)

I hope I've made myself clear this time. Thanks a lot, guys. :)

If you have the dock centered at the bottom of the screen then move the cursor to either side.

The dock should hide again once you move the cursor.  Does it?

I have two zoomer docks at the top of my desktop, right and left and the same happens to me if I stop the cursor in the  'wrong' or 'correct' position.  :sun:

Philly0381, thanks for your comment. But what if I had a dock which takes the whole bottom width of the screen, without those "sides" you've mentioned? This is my case.

Please, tell me, why are you guys in so defensive mode? I've suggested an OPTION, not a static built-in feature which people wouldn't be able to change. It should be something for us to choose or not to use. If you like it, use it; if not, don't. Simple like that.

I think the more options you offer, the more people will like and use your software, because it will fit them better. Don't you think so?

brunces, I've been an ObjectDock enthusiast for a while. I don't remember seeing anyone request the feature you suggested. That doesn't mean it's not wothwhile. I'm not the judge of that. I don't work for Stardock.

I don't think it's a 'bad' suggestion and thanks for thinking of it, but I agree with Dewie... more than 99% (probably) of folks use a mouse or equivalent. I don't think ObjectDock's popularity would increase much (if at all) with this feature, and it would take time to develop it.

I think it's probably a business decision - not saying you're wrong, just not seeing it's worth the time (= money) to develop. Don't feel bad about what I'm saying, please. Your ideas are good! Keep bringing them up!

Brunces...About the only thing I can suggest is move your browser away from the bottom a bit. The zoomer docks your using are somewhat sensitive and if you have your browser right against the bottom it will just keep doing that...unless of course you move them to the sides.

I have one zoomer on each side and a tabbed dock along the bottom. And unfortunately there are no setting for hotspots on zoomers...only tabbed docks.

DrJBHL, WebGizmos, thanks for your time. :)

I've found a dock software which does exactly what I've asked here. Winstep Nexus Dock. Very cool. I like Objectdock a lot, but I really need those features, so I'm moving to Nexus.

Thank you, guys. Hope you can improve your dock to fit your users better.
