Problems concerning Maps made with Galaxy Forge

Hi everybody,

i´m having a big problem. I play SoaSE Diplomacy updated to the latest version and have downloaded Galaxy Forge3 from this website. After creating a map I saved it within the game folder of SoaSE in the subfolder Galaxy. Problem is I can not find any saved map in the map selection screens within the create a game menu.

Only when I choose to play the original sins version prior to entrenchement and diplomacy I will find these maps.

I tried to save the data to the subfolder diplomacy/galaxy in the game folder, too it wont work.

Only when i overwrite a already existing map (like nemesis or whatever) and send the galaxy file to my buddies i am able to play with them.

I wont find it under galaxy forge in the map selection within the create a game menu although i created subfolders named Galaxy Forge or Galaxy Forge3 within the Games folder and in within the diplomacy subfolder containing the created maps data.

Please help me and enable me to use this awesome feature !! !

Many thanks in advance for your appreciated help on this matter.

For Diplomacy and Entrenchment that's the wrong galaxy forge folder. There is a GalaxyForge folder in the Sins AppData directory (the one that has the mod folders, saves, setting files etc.) that the expansions will look for custom maps in, not the one in the regular sins director with the .exe. And please, don't override the original game files/maps, ever.

Thx GoaFan for your answer.

Unfortunately within the whole game folder there is no galaxy forge folder. Also i wasn´t able to find the saved games within the SOASE Game folder nor the appdata folder. There are only 3    .dxscript2 files within the appdata folder and some icons.

I bought the trinity edition of this game. Im not playing with mods.

Is there anybody who can help me ?

Oh and is this forum still active like with moderators and do the developers or technical guys from the developing company read and post here ?

My apologies, I did not realize there was a folder called AppData in the Sins directory. The folder I am talking about you can find here (credit to Harpo for this explanation).

assuming you have sins 1.191/entrenchment 1.051/diplomacy 1.011,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp

C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or for vista/windows 7

C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

for sins 1.15/entrenchment 1.00 and earlier, the correct location IS the program files \galaxy folder, and you also NEED to edit the entrenchment's galaxy.manifest to include the maps and also the total count of maps

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop
End of quote

And yes, stardock/ironclad people do check the technical forums, but I'm not sure if they'd help with a GalaxyForge problem as that is just a bonus feature Ironclad made on their own free time.

Edit: Hopefully the German path names are similar enough to the English ones to find it.

Hi there,

I am getting a little desperate here. Puuh.

I did not find the folder you talked about there was only one folder in the Application Data folder and its name is Microsoft. Searched for a Local folder and didn´t find any on my computer. So I included Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge these folders into the Application Data hoping that the game would find the maps in there. Unfortunately it didn´t.

Any more ideas why it won´t work for me ? Is it trinity edition ? Anyone has experience with Galaxy Forge and Trinity Edition ?

Your help would be most appreciated.

Big Thanx again to GoaFan77 for all his help so far.

FOUND IT !

The secret was that the folder is hidden and has to be made visible. For all newbies like me, here is the complete solution of how to save map data enabling the game to find es within the game creation screen.

here is my standard advice regarding maps and sins/entrenchment/diplomacy
assuming you have sins 1.191/entrenchment 1.051/diplomacy 1.011, the galaxy forge maps NEED
to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a
Solar Empire\GalaxyForge
or for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.
for sins 1.15/entrenchment 1.00 and earlier, the correct location IS the program files \galaxy folder,
and you also NEED to edit the entrenchment's galaxy.manifest to include the maps and also the total
count of maps
NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on
'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then
you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create
a shortcut to it on the desktop
NOTE 2 the 'user name' in the above paths is your WINDOWS login user name, eg Administrator
