Download confusion

OK...can someone explain to me why it is that when I go to download something like icons I am prompted to open them with Sysmetrix rather than Iconpackager. I am just curious as to why there is no consistancy in downloads being opened with the appropriate program.

I would assume it would be...

Icons = Iconpackager
Cursors = CursorXP
WindowBlinds = Windowblinds
Sysmetrix = Sysmetrix

It's just a little confusing and sometimes frustrating when your prompted to download something with something else that has nothing to so with what your downloading. Then you have to figure out how your going to get it from where you don't want it to where when it should have gone in the first place.

That in itself could explain alot of bandwidth use when new users are confused by this and think they didn't download something correctly and do it all over again.

Ok...when I click under a skin where it says download and the window comes up that says "save this file" ..."open with ?"..."download this file later"...how does someone change the "open with ?" portion of that? Usually when I go to download something like a WB it says "open with windowblinds" or an icon package is opened with iconpackager. But for example, when I try to download the icon packages for duopixels it is opened with sysmetrix which doesn't make sense to me.

somewhere within your browser settings the program set to open it is wrong. In this isolated instant of a single object the best course is to just save to disk and install by clicking on the iconpackager file (maybe within the zip downloaded).

OK Travis...I wasn't aware that was a possibility, but I never changed anything in those settings. Most things open with the appropriate program, it has just been things like the icons for duopixels...i.e. AlienMind. Try clicking on download and tell me what comes up for you in the "open with ?" download window.

Download the icon packer file to a folder on your computer. Go to that file and right click then hit properties. The title or your file will be at the top of the popup, underneath that should be type of file. If it doesnt say iconpackager, then hit the change button right next to it and select iconpackager from the list. If it is not on the list browse for the exe file and point to it. Hit apply. After that you should be straight

Oh yeah Bones...does that straighten out the download window when I click on these skins or will I need to do that each time?

After this you should be good for iconpackager, you might want to check windowblinds to be sure everything is ok. You should only need to set it once though

I've never had this problem with other icon packages, I just had this problem with duopixel icons and a few others. Otherwise most packages open with iconpackager. How would these settings be changed without me changing them? Was there some default setting that caused the change in an update or something like that?

Oh yeah...when icon packages are opened with icon developer...does that install the icons or must I install them from there as well. Again, I never had this problem before.

Could have been, hard to say, it has happened to me also after downloading some windowblind skins Could be any recently install apps too. Programs sometimes think that they should take over your pc.

Hey Bones!..I see you have the christmas time skin by mormegil...did you have a problem opening the zip file for the backgrounds? I downloaded that file but the thing wouldn't extract to my folder. I had to click on the preview and save as...in order to get the wallpaper. And if I'm not mistaken that one wanted to open with sysmetrix as well.

No everything went fine..hmm..do the same thing for the wall that you did for the IP. You might want to check all your extensions o see what they open with. If you keep ahveing trouble you might have uninstall the sysmetrix and install again. What the version for sysmetrix??

As far as I know I have the most recent version of sysmetrix. And when I try opening the christmastime wallpaper it says it is a bad zip file of a split zip file?

The latest gave me a fit also, everytime I went to install something Sysmetrix jumped in to install itself first. I would try reinstalling it if you have continued problems.

Yeah...I've been having that problem as well. I would try to download something and the default image in sysmetrix would popup on my desktop.
