How to paste an icon into Photoshop with transparent background?

Hi, Could anyone tell me how to copy an icon to photoshop with its background transparent?

You can't.
Where do you copy it from? An Icon Editor?
Anyway, it doesn't matter. Whether you are copying it from an Icon Editor or just taking a screenshot that you paste into Photoshop, the transparency is lost. You have to select the color and delete it. It's easy enough to do anyway, it takes a second.

Unless you are talking about 32 bits XP or OSX icons, then it's even harder until the applications follow the technology.

What we need is an application that would extract the alpha channel from these images into a greyscale image that could be pasted into the alpha channel in photoshop, it's entirely possible, and I'm surprised nobody has already done it. I might take a look at writing such a thing later if I get a chance. I would need to know where to get one of these 32bit icons though, any suggestions?

IconShop is currently in early development to extract 32 bits OS X icons. But you need XP to see the result since the extracted file is a 32 bits PC icon...
