Offspring Marriage

I just married my grandson to his sister.  I was curious if the game would let me do it, I hope they have mutant babies.  Is it terrible that I have been laughing out loud since I did this?  If you want to try it out, have one of your grandkids that stays with you and one that decided to join their mothers nation get married, the game allows it.  Pretty funny, in a disgusting kind of way.

European Royalty (IRL) set the precident a long time ago.

On topic: It has been like that since Beta. *shrug*

Historically accurate...wonder if they can add a technology under the dynasty tree so people can "discover" that incest is bad.

In some Paradox Games, if you have incest relationships, the kids are born with the "Inbred" trait, that makes them pretty worthless.  They might think of adding something like that.

It might have happened in A Song of Ice and Fire, therefore it's a valid point.

I think Egyptian Royalty might have done it before the Europeans did ;). Either way though, it's been done by many, many, royal lines down through the ages. It's also been done by many, many, rednecks...down through the ages...LoL.

Most likely an oversight between the faction affiliation and parentage values determining who's a viable spouse.

Also, it created a strange double of the sister-wife.  There is one of her that works just like any normal hero unit, and a second copy of her that cant move out of the captial.

Well yes it's pretty much how the royal famillies of europe did it for centuries as someone already posted so it's just art mimicing life. And egyption pharohs often married their sister to keep their blood line pure...they where considered living gods after all.

Europeans married cousins I believe, not sisters.  Egyptian royalty  did, and were so horribly inbred they were deformed and had difficulty reproducing.  I want my mutants!

To be honest, being able to marry your brother, sister, or child, parent, should be out.  I mean...icky.  But, there is a gameplay issue for our ability to marry all of our children off if they are not allowed to marry non royal heroes, as they will have very limited options especially on a small map with few other nations.  So I think we should add allowing marrying of heroes and eliminate marrying 1st degree relatives.

I think that's a great idea.  We already have negative qualities you can give in sovereign creation to free up points to give in other areas.  Why not give children of incest 'insane' or something detrimental but higher skills in other areas?

thats not possible right now

What's not possible?  You can marry your sister.  Do you mean it's impossible for the devs to change that?  Why?

Also, do you guys ever get the invisible not in game child?  When they get to age 20, they are able to be married and have children, but they don't actually show up in game, have no stats and have some generic  picture?  That is very lame.

Also, I didn't mean to be insulting to the Devs or Stardock with my thread title, I don't really think Brad or anyone else at stardock is pro-incest, I was just trying to be funny...

I've had a game where my dynasties screen was messed up.

My first child (a female) appeared to be married to my Wife, while have a second child together :p

They still showed up fine in the game though.

I don't think it should be out actually though I'm sure it will be so as not to offend anyone, but historicly IRL several cultures have inbred their noble bloodlines, particularly where the bloodline itself is thought to be special.

A reason for inbreeding might for example be to try and breed more channelers this being a rare trait, similar to the plot of the witching hour in a way. A culture that considers it's ruler divine might also want to keep their bloodline as pure as possible.

Why should all in game cultures follow Christian or Scientific thinking on intermarriage?

I want inbreeding in this game!

It happened in the real world, can't we make the decisions for or against on our own?

I keep trying to marry my daughter to another nations daughter and keep getting a message saying "We can't accept that!  Such a union would produce no offspring!" or something like that, and I keep looking for the button that says "yeah, but it would be hot".
