Impressions from 2 years ago....

I used to be around under a different name, but I can't even remember what it was now, and I used to have access to the betas, just before the first version was released.

Then my PC crashed, I got busy and things happened, and I forgot all about it.

Recently I found Trinity on the shelf and decided to try that. And I have only played vanilla sins so far....

These are my observations from what I remember:

In Trinity:

- The UI is and was excellent.

- The AI seems to be a little more stable in the way it handles itself, it does less strange things. I vaguely recall that it was a bit funny at times but I can't really remember why. It seems a bit harder, or, more difficult to exploit.

- No crashes so far.

- I am glad I picked it up again.

I can't wait to try Diplomacy - I just want to get back into Vanilla first.

Thankyou Ironclad and Stardock for a solid game designed as a game.

Are you aware that you could have just purchased the two expansions as a download through Impulse?  Note that you need to install Impulse (like Steam, but very benign) in order to patch the game now and to play it online.  http://www.ImpulseDriven.com

The Diplomacy AI also comes in two more flavors with an extra eco buff, Cruel (3x eco) and Vicious (4x eco).  What you'll find is that while the AI might be a little bit smarter (or so people say), it doesn't handle starbases very well.

As far as crashes go, a large bug was finally identified and squashed with one of the recent Diplomacy patches and it's cut down on desyncs and minidumps.

Yes but as I said I couldn't even remember my username. I'm not bothered by buying it off the shelf. And as for impulse, it used to be the Stardock client or something similar, so I got that straight away.

If you can forego star bases, the AI (depending on its personality) can be challenging at higher levels (except for large maps).

But if you build starbases then yes the AI dies like lemmings going over a cliff ... repeatedly.
