Length of Games

How long are the different game stages

I have seen people refer to late game / mid game.

How long is a game supposed to last? How much does it change based on map size? What do you consider the early / middle / late game turns and technologies.

Since I have the OOM bug, I have no game for more than 219 turns or so, so far. Is that early / middle or late?

I would say late turn 219 is very game game. On a medium extreme map with redicilous AI I've usually destroyed half the factions before turn 100 (or they have destroyed themselves). The only trap that sometimes delay the game is if you accidently sign a non-aggresion treaty and have to wait for it to expire. In the latest game where I've played more peacefully I am researching the spell of mastery by turn 150. I am not sure if I am developing too fast, because non-aggression treaties and children still seems to take too long, and you can win the game by any of the goals long before your kids mature or the non-aggresion treaty runs out.

My current game is coming dreadfully close to the end--and I'm around turn 500.  It's been extremely fun, even with incredibly powerful monsters that levelled like crazy prior to the 1.07 update (I killed them all, but it was *hard* and fun).  Even though one night I had to quit because I was mentally exhausted by them...

I consider turns 250 to 350 to be mid-game, but that's based entirely on my gaming style.  My Sov didn't even get married until around turn 150!  (Patience on that really paid off!!!)

You don't actually have to wait for the non-aggression pact to expire.  It's probably a bug, but it's possible to declare war after discussing dynasties with the other faction.

Ignoring that fact that it is easy to win game quickly, I would consider 219 turns to be mid to late game.  Late game implies high level technology, which I would say is after turn 300 or so.  It depends on map size (and pacing?) though.

That is quite obviously a bug, all the closed options open up after trying to discuss dynasty.

I said "probably" because I wasn't certain if it was a bug, or if offering a marriage that would not produce heirs annoyed the king enough to allow the option for war. lol

Then I must certainly be doing something wrong... I played a game up to turn 387 yesterday, I had three cities, hadn't even met the other factions, was wandering around looting all the resources and items that appear on the map with the Adventuring technology branch... The it started crashing and I couldn't continue on at all.

You should spam more cities. You get additional materials and research from additional cities, and if you place them far enough away then the caravan to a food producing city will more than pay for the new cities food consumption.

That said I am starting to suspect my games are so easy because I play on a higher challenge level, for some reason a higher challenge level means starting with several factions just next to you, meaning you can invade them and then have two or three capital cities, each with all the good resources a capital starts with.

They should seriously make pioneers much more expensive and take longer to make. Spamming cities is far too easy.

Also, Epic should be renamed to slow, and a true epic speed should be implemented.

I don't think you can really make a turn by turn judgment of what start/mid/end game happens. A lot of it varies based on location and happenstance. I think it can also vary from player to play within a game. I think at best, we can use loose definitions.

Start Game: Initial exploration, aggressive and/or relatively unhindered expansion

Early Mid Game: Expansion slows down, increased monster activity relative to size, consolidation of internal terrain and resources.

Late Mid Game: General borders and kingdom size more or less static, and general victory options are possible to consider.

End Game: General power rankings solidify, paths to victory are solidified, and ultimate fates happen.

This is a short game in my opinion - Galciv on a Huge (Immense?) can take me a week on Twilight of the Arnor.

I'm finishing a large map maxed out on AI and # of opponents in less than 4-5 hours.

:(

Try limiting your strats and victory conditions to avoid the easy options.  I found the game lasted longer and was a lot more fun if I didn't use Sand Golems or any summoning spells until late in the game for example.  Hopefully the balance and AI issues will be fixed one day so it isn't necessary ;)

Also, another possible quick fix to extending the game is to mod the ElementalDef.xml file. I upped the "SpellLevelScalar," the epic tech pacing multiplier, and the tech level exponent. I had some problems with champions leveling in previous versions, but everything seems to be working in 1.7.

My personnal problem is that i find late game boring,so i rush mastery quest with 2 squads of warhammers soliers + usually the quest dragon to end the game.Hunting faction isnt that fun.

Well it's my personnal opinions.

True but that's game time in general not the individual phases that compose the game time. It's like comparing a short story and a novel. One may be 80 pages and the other 800 pages but it's not like the climax of the story happens on page 50 in each.
