Help, monitor change and its just not pretty

So my old monitor died. I bought one of these new fangled flat-screen rectangle shaped ones. Now E:WoM looks wrong. Sort of like things are a bit stretched and not quite right. I'm debating taking my monitor back and buying a square one(other stuff doesn't look right). Does anyone know how I can improve this? Or maybe set this monitor's display to somehow resemble a square instead of this slight stretched display? A few specific settings?

Its an Asus VE205/245/246 series LCD monitor.

Sounds like the resolutions aren't set right. A widescreen monitor uses different resolutions, depending on if it's 16:9 or 16:10.

make sure your windows resolution is set to it's max, then go into Elemental and check that it's set the same way.

Right-click on your Win7 desktop. Click on the "Screen resolution" line, in the list. Then, click on the small arrow next to your screen's resolution. A vertical slider will appear. At its top is the maximum resolution your monitor can support : it is usually the correct one. Windows might recommend another (lower) resolution : try it only if you don't like the maximum resolution. Then click the "apply" button, confirm your choice, and exit.

Then, when you're in the game program, change the resolution in the visual options to match your desktop's resolution. You will have to exit the game and relaunch it for the changes to take effect.

Right click anywhere on your desktop and click "Screen Resolution".

Thanks guys. It works mostly. Still prefer the square monitor, but it close enough.
