Very basic questions about adding/removing mods to my game

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I'm new to the mod world:

1. Can I add a mod mid-game, or does it have to be at the start of a new one?

2. If I remove a mod, does it destroy whatever savegames I have that used it?

3. Do mods overwrite eachother...like if I add in two mods that change spell effects, which one wins?

4. Why can't I download mods (other than maps) from inside the game itself?  Do mods have to get by Stardock before they are "official"?

I really want to get some mods that make spells more uber prior to Stardock actually fixing things, but I don't want to bork my game either.

Thanks in advance!

1. No, you have to start a new game.

2. Hmmm not sure. I think it will still work, though I haven't tried. You may get some weirdness here.

3. They will "stack". So the costs, and damage will add together.

4. The Stardock team is still hammering out how to moderate all the mods (So we dont just get a million mods of crap). So nothing is getting approved just yet.

Just make sure if you're modding to not actually modify the original files. You can always re-install, but I've found that things get real funky when you start messing with those files. Always create a new xml file (the filename doesn't matter, it's whats inside that does) when modding.

Have fun fellow masochist!

AFAIK, the "stacking" of <GameModifier> tags is actually a bug that's being looked at. All the other data overwrites (which one takes priority isn't known yet), but the stuff inside the <GameModifier> tags, which is basically all the damage numbers/calculations, stats, quest rewards, etc doesn't get overwritten so it ends up stacking. It's not supposed to.

I see several mods that work on spell effects, essence bonuses, and armor, etc.  Is it safe to say I shouldn't add in a mod if I have another already that effects one of these things?
