screen flashes white, 'graphics driver recovered', then either CTD or BSOD

Asus P5Q

Geforce 8600 GT, latest drivers

2 gig ram

fresh install of vista family premium

--------------------

After loading a particular 1.06 game, the screen immediately flashes white, randomly.  This has happened 3 times.  Once, it CTD'd with a direct X error.  Once, the flashing stopped and I was able to play, although some of the city labels were missing, and after I quit, I had a windows popup, something like, 'the graphics driver has been recovered'.  Once, the screen became totally corrupted and it literally BSOD'd.

Of course, I thought at first my card was overheating, but I doubted that as the problem started as soon as the game loaded.  I have a sidebar gadget that measures the temp, it's always between 55 and 60 deg C when I quit playing a 3D game, and here was no different.  So then I tried to make the problem happen with Starcraft 2, I loaded a mission with lots of units attacking, I made a bunch of units and generally tried to overheat my card to see if I could make the same thing happen.  Nope, rock solid, temp at 61 deg C when I quit.

I might add that I just had a hard drive die on me a week ago, so my windows install is as clean as can be, everything reinstalled from scratch.

It really appears that this problem is coming from the game itself.  Hope this helps.

Please open your debug.err file in notepad, and link the contents into a post here via pastebin. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

The file can be found in My Documents\My Games\Elemental

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug log will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Hi kryo,

Thanks for the response.  It's too late for the debug as I didn't know the procedure.  I haven't had it happen since then, but I do have the old save game, I'll load it up and see what happens.
