thinking of buying the limited edition to spite that Pc gamer crap

is it worth it?

so, yeah .....

GOD

DAMN

YOU, Stardock!

I'm simi-broke and now i'm thinking of spending $70 on the LE version just to spite that shit head from PG gamer. on top of that I picked up the novel at borders today and read the first two chapters ... god damn it! I can't spend $70 right now so I sure as hell can't spend $86 for the book too!

yeah, I'm being melodramatic. I was planing on buying the game even before the shit bag opened his mouth (that was way out of line for any media member to make a statement like that, and even worse that PG gamer is standing behind him instead of receding it and firing his ass) but I had been planing to buy it later on when I'm not buying $150 text books by the bucket full, now I want to buy it immediately in impotent protest. I would have bought the novel today but I have been waiting for Brent Weeks new book to come out since before his last book in the night angel series: sorry, Fan love won out but I'l pick up your book the net time I buy one.

so, for the people who have their LE copies: is it worth the extra cost?

P.S. there was nothing wrong with saying "if you don't like our games, then don't buy them: but if your not going to buy, it then stop whining!" it's too true and I think more game developers should weather the storm by saying "this is our game: like it or not is up to you, we can live with it if you don't but we are not going to bribe you to play it by rewriting it to placate you".

we all know that you guys don't have unlimited funds and some concessions had to be made. if Blizzact had released a game in this state I would be all for stringing them up, they don't have to worry about closing their doors anytime soon, but it's hard times right now for the little guys and we all know you guy can and will fix the problems before moving on to a new project.

the current people who are bad mouthing you aren't and never were your customers, you guys are awesome, just keep sticking to your guns and you will come out on top. buckling under the pressure will just alienate the people who are sticking by you guys right now, but no matter what you do the people giving you shit wont ever turn into paying players.

Sad thing is, if not for the flamewars, Elemental would have just been ignored by the gaming press, like every other indie release.

Since when is Stardock "indie", anyway? o_O

Que? Almost every post I've read says the complete opposite. it's the old Stardock customers that's concerned. And they've already bought the game so they're all paying customers and as such deserve as much attention as you do. Just because you wish for something to be true doesn't make it so I'm afraid.

Anyway. I've got the game and I'm quite positive so far. I just hope everyone on this forum could chill down a bit. Everything isn't black or white you know. Communicating on the internet isn't easy since we need facial expressions and body language in order to really connect. Once upon a time there were such a thing as Netiquette (yeah, I'm that old...).

Since they're not beholden to a publisher.

So all the people who bought the game and had problems are in fact not Stardock customers?

You have a unique definition of "customer".

I know a bad launch is a tough pill for a massive fanboy to handle, but yeesh.

They're not true customers. Clearly, the technical and design issues they're experiencing are the result of their insufficient faith.

If only they prayed to the game with open hearts and true humility, their problems would be resolved.

No kidding.  Just because a publishers tends to do decent work does not mean they won't or can't flub it.  Get a grip son.  A customer is any one whom pays for a product.  Hence, any one whom is upset is a customer.  If they don't like the product or it doesn't meet their expectations, they have a perfect right to not be happy with said product, or service, wether their complaint may or may not be accurate.  Currently, the most positive thing I can say about the game is that it will continue to evolve and have assets added in.  It's a Stardock thing.  Though the other thing that comes to mind is it's a pretty good form of DRM that isn't part of the software or eat your computer.

Since they started ignoring their business software

This actually made me realize something.  Or actually something I had already realized but simply confirmed my suspicions.  You will only get a good review from a gaming magazine/website if you pay for advertising with them.  Since paying for advertising in general usually means putting your adds on multiple gaming magazines/websites they tend to all say the same thing.  Then you go out and buy the game and it turns out to be a piece of crap and you wonder how the hell these magazines/websites could possibly give that game anything higher than a 5.  The Halo series was very much like this for me.  Unreal Tournament series blew Halo out of the water and yet no one ever says anything about it.

Since Stardock publishes their own games and they're not as big as the big name publishers you can easily tell they have no budget for advertising.  I didn't even know Elemental existed until I saw a random poll on the Galactic Civilizations 2 website talking about this game.  Then I looked it up on Impulse and found out it had already released 2 days prior.  Since I'm a huge fan of MOM style games I bought it.  Yes, this game is unfinished.  I imagine its because they had to do something drastic to make ends meet, but in the couple of days I've owned this game they've already released 2 patches and have kept a constant flow of communication with us.

I've seen several threads here with developers talking directly with players and discussing ways to fix the current problems in the game.  I've never seen this happen before.  Not even Blizzard does this.  Then we see threads made by the CEO, Frogboy, getting down and dirty (metaphorically of course) with us and talking about the future of the game and AI direction.  I've never seen a CEO of a game company come down off his pedestal and speak with the lowly gamers like that.  It makes me believe that Stardock really does care about their products  and they really do want to make the best games they can.

The PC Gamer article is mostly right.  This game is not as polished as it should be.  Will it be a good or great game?  Who knows.  However, it is not something the average person should throw money into.  That is their opinion and there is nothing wrong with it.  If you like to throw money into this game - that is your opinion and option as well.

The fanboyishness of that post is Appletastic :)

I'm waiting for my LE to arrive, but I'm going to leave it in the shrink wrap until the AI is improved and the crashes fixed. I've tried my best to like the game, but when 9 AIs at Ridiculous difficulty can't put up a fight (aside from doing a CTD every now and then), it's time to put it aside for a month or two till that's sorted out. Then I'll open the box and pretend it just got released.

By the time Multiplayer opens up, there will be three people playing it?
