Please Stardock/Brad Make them Register to Post

I know a great solution to stop a lot of this riff raff troll copycat postings.

Have everyone register their game serial number like Paradox does it to be able to post here. No register no postie. ;))

My goodness! Could you stop the asskissing already?!

You don't help as much as the next troll.

It's not a great solution. It denies people who haven't purchased the game but who are legitimately curious and have questions the opportunity to have those questions answered before spending their money. It also gets complicated when you remember that SD's forum system spans multiple games - hundreds, even, if you include all the forums for non-SD, Impulse-released titles. How would you have them handling posting in those forums? Should my account for Elemental allow me to post only in this forum? In the forum of all SD-developed games?

Paradox does it and they have oodles of forums as well. :)) But, then again Paradox has Gestapo Moderators to keep the riff raff down an out as well.

I've always been a bit puzzled about the way Paradox handles this. It's not necessarily a bad idea, but it's fairly off-turning if you have a question about a game and can't post it because you don't have the game. There are plenty of non-constructive posts over there, too, so this approach doesn't guarantee more mature discussion. It almost certainly does lead to more sales, though!

I believe that a community -- any community -- needs to be able to handle disagreements and minority opinions, and even stupidity, if it wants to really grow, thrive and become strong. In a forum context, the problem is often that the established users give attention to trolls (whether actual or perceived). Attention is a reward and if it was less freely given to people who don't contribute to the (your) community, the ripples they cause would be smaller or non-existent. It's just not fun if your attempts to cause friction don't get a response.

(I'm not referring to people who have valid concerns and voice them constructively. A community needs these people and there should not be an entry fee. Plus, there are also some "game owners" who flame everyone whose view differs from theirs.)

I absolutely despise this system, I really hope Stardock does not adopt it.

They could indicate ownership under a persons name. Quite a few placed do that. Little icon of each stardock game you have.

bad idea aside, i doubt they can do this as all their forums are linked. e.g. galciv/sins/elemental/etc all use the same account. not to mention their non-gaming pages.

I was banned from X3 (same registration as suggested here) forums due the fact that I mentioned that I quote myself "I can understand people pirating the game that does not have demo, paying $50 for cat in the sack is not pleasant" . So moderator banned me under the flag of "promoting software piracy".

Since it was the same system I stopped to get updates, mods and could not get support (since forum account was connected to serial number). Not something I think in worm about...

Don't worry guys, Stardock's never going to do this. :P

So, if you buy game you're somehow magically guaranteed not to be a troll?

I haven't noticed much problems on these forums, except few thread on same topic. Some people don't bother searching much before posting, that's not going to be solved by requiring serial key.

Only certain forums parts on the paradox forum require that you register your game. Technical support part that i can remember of the top of my head.

Anyone can sign up on the forum and post in the other forum parts

The OP is a shining example of this, actually, since he consistently trolls basically anyone who expresses concern about the game :P

Wrong troll I speak out to those who continually post the SAME THING. Perhaps if you could read and comprehend you'd see this. We don't need 20000 threads about the same thing on the main page and you know it as well as I do. These people can learn to search just like I have. If ole Brad would give me a Moderators stick I'd show you how to run a forum. ;))

Most often people who troll is usually unsatisfied customers who did bought the game and want share their disappointment with entire world :) So it will not help. The "serial thing" invented just not to spend support time on pirates.

So, what do you do about the people who do own the game and are posting? Because that's who most of the people you don't like are. :P

Again with the "all people with complaints are lying trolls who don't own the game"?

Really? That is what you keep going back to? Awesome post.

If what you propose was in effect, I would not have been able to sign up and talk to the community and the devs. As a result of that, I would not have bought the game.

I do like the idea of registering the serials to give you some kind of badge under your name to indicate the ownership. They can also list the time played pulled from impulse so that you know the level of expertise of the user.

You need and account to post. Isn't that DRM?

And you need internet to post. Is that even worse DRM?

And don't get me started by the ridiculous obligation of being alive to be able to post!! WTF???

Now seriously, to "lock" some areas by the need of registration could potentially be good (but never ever the Elemental/General one!!!) but it's not a good idea for Stardock. Especially with these crossing forums (WC, SoaSE, Demigod, Elemental...)

The OP would really hate this is it were implemented because his favorite refrain when anyone complains about the game is that "they don't have it". Without that he might actually have to defend a point.

lol...

anyone who takes this rossanderson idiot seriously needs to slap themselves

he's easily the biggest most repetitive troll of anyone posting here

just ignore him and your time spent here will be more pleasant.

I agree with wintersong.  It would go against a lot of the freedoms Stardock represents if they put that kind of limit on things.

Some trolls suck, but that's part of releasing a product to a wide market.

I place my disapproval on this locking idea.

I got to agree, not the best idea. Besides mods really love moderating, they don't want help! }:)
