Enahanced Dialog / ObjectDock Questions

Hi, I have two questions, one about ObjectDock and one about an old Stardock app, Enhanched Dialogue.

1)  I was wondering if there's any way to get hold of Enhanced Dialogue? I recently rolled back from Windows 7 to Windows XP and I'd love to have advanced Dialogue back. I do have several Satrdock archives from the days of Stardock Central (i.e. before Impluse) - can in restore it from those? Will it be in the archives? What do I need to do - just sintall SDCentral and then where do I put the archives so it will find them?

Or can I still get hold of Dialog Enchanced via my current Object Desktop subscription and Impulse?

2) THis migh sound like a stupid question, but can I add web links to ObjectDock? I'd like to have a tabbed dock where the trays act as links to different types of site - e.g. tray one could be social networking sites, tray two could be search engines, etc; I can't seem to find a way to make a dock icon link to a web address - is it possible? Surely it must be if doclets can get web infomation (e.g. the weather dock)?

Thanks in advance for replies.

1.)  I see it listed on my Impulse, I just now downloaded and archived it to be sure it was there.  (Didn't actually install it.)  You should be able to just get it from there, that's what I'd do.  Otherwise, yes you should be able to install Stardock Central and restore an archive of it that you made before.  (You would have had to have made an archive of the specific application though.) By default if I remember right SDC looked for archives in C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP\.  You can change that in SDC under Preferences somewhere in there.  I'd go the Impulse route though if I could.

2.) Have a look at this post:

Happy clicking.

Thanks Dave for the quick reply. I don't know why but when I tried adding a URL instead of a file path to an ObjectDock icon (which did after all seem like the most obvious way to do it) yesterday when I was setting up my docks it didn't work - you clicked on it and nothing happened. Today it magically works. Odd. Maybe I had a typo in my previous attempts. I double checked for EnhancedDialogue and I don't have it listed with the other Object Desktop applications. I know I archived all the applications I had installed the last time I used Windows XP though, and then I backed that up to a DVD so it should just be a case of copying the archive from the DVD back to the right folder and I'll just restore it that way. Wish I knew why it wasn't showing up in impulse now though if it's showing up for you - I just assumed that because the last version I used was only a 0.9x that Stardock must have abandoned it in the time I've not been using Object Desktop and that they'd removed it from impulse. Thanks again.

I love 7, but I wish Enhanced Dialog worked on it as well. It would be really useful for the apps that use the old legacy dialog that doesn't have all my favorites links.

Check your Impulse settings - maybe you've got it hidden?

Click on white square in the top left corner of Impulse.  In the dropdown list that appears, make sure "Show hidden applications" is checked.

The version that's showing on Impulse is 1.00 dated 3/11/2008 so it might be worth a look.

I love windows 7 too, and my license won't go to waste as I'm keeping it my other, newer machine, but this one's getting on a bit and there's a noticable speed increase with XP, even though it was happily running 7 for the best part of a year. I wish I knew why windows 7 was so blindingly fast in copying files across the network in comparison to XP. I actually had to *slow it down* when transferring to my classic Xbox Media Centre because the xbox buffer could keep up with Windows7 transfer speed....

I can't uncheck "show hidden items" - it's grayed out. I did hide an app and *then* the "show hidden items" checkbox became available, and I clicked it to reveal the app I's hidden but there's no sign of Enhanced Dialogue there. Odd that you should have it and I don't. (I do also have the "show prereleases and betas," or whatever that checkbox is, selected.

Also I've noticed the URL links in ObjectDock are a bit hit-and-miss; I'd say that for every three clicks only one of them actually opens the link in my browser and the other two do nothing.

Thanks for the link, Dave I logged in but I got the same result as I do from Impulse installer:

My Desktop
No Enhanced Dialogue listed. Is this something that's been removed from recent ODesktop subscriptions?   Looks like my only recorse is todig out that DVD and restore from the archive.
