SINS - Downloaded file invalid; MD5s do not match server

Help!

from Stardock Forums

I have seriously tried everything I could find and think of to try to get this download to work but EVERYTHING has failed. I have turned off firewalls, gone directly through the modem, deleted everything and started fresh, reinstalled impulse, clearing previous results... and so much more. I have even tried downloading directly from http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/. It also fails.

Here is a copy of my error log: (I have tried 5 or 6 times now to download; each time it failed) Please help! :(

This type of issue is generally caused by a security (antivirus, antispyware, etc) application interfering with Impulse's download. When the downloaded (modified) file is then compared against what's on the server, it obviously fails. You will need to either add an exception/exclusion for Impulse to your security software or you will need to temporarily disable this while downloading and installing.

Repeat MD5 errors are also commonly caused by bad system memory, or (less often) a bad CPU or motherboard. Try testing your computer using memtest86+ (it's free!)

I tried downloading it with my anti virus off but that didn't make any difference, and I ran memtest a couple of weeks ago (when I built this pc) and all was fine.

I had this exact same problem recently.  After an (significant) amount of suggestions from Stardock support, and some tinkering on my own, I discovered there were a couple of things going on.  First, I did actually have a bad stick of RAM - probably should've caught that one earlier.  Second, my router was partially faulty.  It's my experience that the MD5 error just means something was lost or corrupted along the way, be it from security software, bad RAM, faulty networking equipment, or maybe even a puppy-chewed wire that hasn't quite failed yet.

If you want to be sure whether it's your network equipment that's the problem, download the full installer at a friend's house and then use those files on your home computer.
