was wondering if anyone else has noticed that the office team is skipping nr.13 and calling 2010 14
pritty laughterble that programmers are supersticus
It has nothing to do with the supernatural, it's just elementary business sense. There is zero cost to calling the next version of a product 14 instead of 13. At the same time, if even 0.1% of potential buyers would not buy a version 13 product...
It's all profit, zero cost.
The programmers probably weren't even consulted.
I know this sounds odd, but I remember working on a software package that had a "Wizard" in it, that would float around and give a tutorial of the software. This software was intended for release in US and foreign markets. We had to localize it to use a different character, and remove any reference to the word "Wizard" because certain regions and peoples are STRONGLY against witchcraft / wizardry / etc. to the point of not even being okay with a fictional / fun reference to them. I later found out that Microsoft localizes the same way for those regions. They're probably skipping 13 so that they can have the same version worldwide.
I've been in hotels and other buildings that don't have a floor 13 (they skip from 12 to 14, which I thought very weird).
Yea, its not all that uncommon. Hopefully we will get over it in a few more years. The world is a lot better about this kind of stuff then it was.
