O.D. causing media files to open in background

So, ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 I have been having this issue.  If I try to open a file (specifically pictures or video) the file will always open behind the folder window.  It doesn't actually open all the way in the background because if I have multiple windows open it will still only open behind the folder containg the file. However, it seems to only be an issue when using Windows Picture Viewer and Windows Media Player.  If I select other programs as the default to open files then the problem is solved.  Unfortunately, these are my preferred programs.

I have isolated the problem to ObjectDock and can eliminate this issue if I close the dock down.  This is not really acceptable though.  I am using version 1.90 build 536.  I have been using ObjectDock for years on both XP and Vista with no issues.  This only started once I moved to Windows 7.  The dock's position is set to "Hide in background when not in use".

Any thoughts on this?  Anyone experienced similar issues?  Any help would be great.

Thanks for your time.

Chris---join the ranks. I also have the problem as well as many. many others. When I want to view a photo (in Windows Photo Viewer or Windows Live Photo Gallery) it opens in the background causing me to have to then open it from the taskbar. When I close Object Dock all works as it should. So far, no solution that I can find. I was able (finally) to change the background color of Windows Live Photo Gallery to BLACK as it should be, but this opening in the background is still a problem. Perhaps RocketDock will work as it should, but I will wait to see if there is a fix. By the way------Windows 7 Premium 64 bit.

That's interesting, that you've narrowed it down to Object Dock, because I am having the same annoying problem with my new computer running Windows 7....and I am also running Object Dock Plus. I tried various things to make it open in front of Windows Explorer, no luck. I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  I would really be interested in a solution as, like you guys, I use Windows Explorer/Photo Viewer to browse my images & photos. :\

Also, how does one subscribe to a topic/thread here?? I can't find a way to do it. :-/

It gets even more interesting.....I'm runnning Windows 7x64...it happens to me very often (tho not all the time) and I don't have OD installed at all. Really bugs me when I'm installing software and some notification box will pop-up behind the installation window and I wait forever for the process to end only to discover the box asking me a question.

This is not just a Windows7 bug. I have the same problem and I am using Vista. I have been using Vista for quite a while, and have had Objectdock on it since I got it....but this is a new problem. What else are you running on your system? I believe this issue started around the time I installed the first beta of WB7... but I'm not positive.

Since this is a new computer, I do not (yet) have any Windowblinds installed. On my previous system (about a month ago), which had both ODock and Windowblinds installed, I did not have this problem.

I had this problem also and tried several things (including older versions) and in the end had to uninstall Objectdock to remove the problem. This was a pain as I have been using it for many years and find it really usefull. I hunted around and found another dock (rocketdock) that did not have this bug. Hopefully this problem will be addressed in a new release soon.

This may not work for everyone and I don't know what other ramifications may appear, but what I finally did was: click on Configure ObjectDock; Settings; Troubleshooting Options; under System Hooks tick Temporarily disable all special Window-Event hooking.

So far no adverse effects otherwise and my media programs open on top as they should.
