Thank's Stant, it has been a long week, last Friday it was my B-day,
(thank's for the belated B-days everyone, now I'm 43.)
But wasn't much a birthday when on the same day this guy died doing the same thing I do, OTR driving.
He was hauling 40,000 pounds of Juciy Juice passing through West Hartford, CT. Almost 5,000 gallons. He was just 47, 3 years older than me. So I was going through this 'what do I want to do with the rest of my life thing', reflecting so to speak. They still doing their investigation on what happened, don't know if he fell asleep or what, he was from the Phily area. I-84 Eastbound is where the ass end of the trailer is. Took over 15 hours to clean the scene up. One of my co-workers who leaves NYC at 1130 on the the same route was stuck in it for over 3 hours. Lucky for me they chirp me to avoid that section of the Interstate and took I-91 to Hartford and only lost 15 mins travel time.
So when my off days rolled around, I thought I would have some quiet time and do some lore writing when my wife told me I was going to North Carolina with her to take our daughters back so the oldest one wouldn't miss school Thursday.
The deal was I did it last year, it's your turn by yourself. So we get in this 'elevated discussion' when it happened.
My wife thought I was going 'super saiyan' and making the room shake, I said,"no, that's an earthquake." She said, "how do you know?"
"Cause ain't no fucking tank going down the road."
After that, I couldn't let her go down south after that happened. Later, as we were making our way to New York to catch the bus to NC, she checked online and found out there really was an earthquake, she asked again, "How did I know?"
"I knew what it wasn't, that and trees and power lines were vibrating as well as all the plants glassware in the bedroom."
Wow! My first earthquake, was rather jarring to say the least.
And now, Irene is coming a calling.
Atlantic City is already in a Hurricane warning and the whole area is under flood watches or warnings. Right now I'm resting from my over 30 hour bus round trip so the swelling will go down in my knees, but now have to worry about to be blown out to sea. Not really, where we are we over 20 miles from the ocean but still, it has been a crazy week here in the Northeast.
