How do you register Galactic Civ II Ultimate Edition, there is no serial number

I have the retail version of Galactic Civilations II Ultimate Edition and I see there is an update for the game.  I can't get the update becuse the game is not registered.  I can't register the game becasue I can't find where the serial number is supposed to be at.  There is no sticker in the box or on the the manual.  I read in another post that maybe "Ultimate Edition" didn't have a serial number, if that's true how do I register to get the update available?

I have the GalCiv2 Ultimate Edition and found the serial number on the back cover of the manual.
