Impulse designed to be as big a nuisance as possible?

Every time I launch Impulse:

1. It Loads

2. Without asking it stops loading.

3. It downloads an update.

4. It installs an update

5. It loads again.

6. Finally I get to go where I want to.

Who programed this abomination? Who is authorizing its design? I sit 5 minutes just to do a 30 second check of something.

I have yet to EVER launch this thing, without it ever NOT updating and downloading and stalling around.

It's so bad, I dread launching it and now rarely use the dumb thing. Sorta counterproductive, huh?

Why don't you guys hire someone in the approval process that might consider what they shove the user through?

I do NOT launch impulse just to see the pretty updates. I appreciate you think they are important, but hey, give the user some choice, and perhaps a break. Ever consider doing updates in the background? Some programs can do that. Its a pretty cool programming technique.

Some companies think that what the user wants is more important than shoving the update agenda at them.

1. Background updates creates a LOT of extraneous, useless code in the executable. I am not a programmer, but I know this from very reliable sources.

2. Impulse isn't an abomination. Trust me. It is how you get Entrenchment, the latest updates, and even some free stuff, game demos, and OTHER GAMES. Updating using Impulse means that if you are browsing for other games that you might be interested in, or are browsing for game demos for games you'd like to try out or for free stuff, Impulse can update your Stardock programs while you browse.

If it's trying to update every time it launches, your install is busted.  This is not normal behavior.

Only time I recall seeing that happening is if I had a phase 1 client installed.

You can try uninstalling Impulse and reinstalling from here: http://www.impulsedriven.com/impulse_setup_full.exe

Hi Tomcat2200,

I agree with Savyg.  It sounds as though there is something wrong with the installation.  I just downloaded the latest update and I love it.  It makes Impulse a lot easier to use.  As Dash (love that dog!) said, you might want to uninstall Impulse and then do a fresh install again.  When the install is finished, right click and verify it.  That way you will know if there is a problem.  You should turn off all security programs beforehand though.  Security software can cause installation issues.

Click the menu button in the upper left corner of Impulse and then choose 'Preferences'. Under 'Impulse Updating Options', choose 'Prompt for Impulse updates'.

Indeed, another noteworthy point is that all (to my knowledge) apps can be launched without Impulse, Impulse is just a nice hub that can do your updates etc.

Correct. Impulse is technically only necessary for the initial install and for any updates that may be available.
