Question about trade route strategies!

Okay, I have been trying to do some research about trade ports, and how they work.  I know that Each trade route is worth a base 1 credit\second, and each phase lane jump from there on increases the value by 0.075  (4 phase jumps + base = 1.3 credits\second)

Now my question is this: Do I only want to have two trade ports, with the longest possible trip?  Or do I want to have a trade port in every gravity well from point A to point B?

Any other useful insight would be appreciated as well ^_^

You need to place trade ports in every grav well from point A to  point B in order to get the phase lane bonuses.  Be careful in your trade route planning as the trade ships will take the shortest route and skip a few trade port stops if theya re in a loop.

There are also times where you will not want to build them due to what appear to be bugs in the AI...  I can't remember the exact pattern, but there is one that allows you to (given a big enough clump of planets) create an trade route of indefinite length.  Using this pattern is a great way to create routes dozens of planets long which create a HUGE boost to you income.

Also, make sure your route runs through things with trading bonuses and place multiple ports on those planets to get the full bonus.  Generally, I put five TP's on a planet with Pure Glaciers to get the huge boost from it.
