Failbearer?

Failbearer?

I've played a lot of games with people who choose torchbearer, and I can only think of one player who ever used him to any great effect. Is torchbearer simply worthless in 2v2, am I simply getting paired up nonstop with bad bearers, or none of the above? Is TB simply gimped?

Oh noes, you're right.  You do play against premades:

Player Team Entity Favor Points Result
Snakeeyes Forces of Light Regulus 160 Won
MonkeyKnukle Forces of Light Sedna 120 Won
Phoolio Forces of Light Rook 90 Won
Rayemy Forces of Darkness Torch Bearer 0 Lost
Hintani Forces of Darkness Unclean Beast 0 Lost
Nacer Forces of Darkness Lord Erebus 0 Lost

You have beaten the team of Rayemy, Hintani and Nacer quite a few times :D

It would be nice if classes had different mechanics. Reg is based off dmg and attack speed. TB should be based off dmg and spellpower. For instance instead of increasing his attack speed with "stats" and attack speed items, they should increase his spell power. Increasing auto attack and spell attack damage. "End game" is all about who can attack the fastest with the most damage. Luckily playing as TB I dont let them get that far most of the time. It would probably take to long to implement and balance now though...to bad. Maybe a future artifact at least...
End of Chaoticon's quote

End game is all about team play, ability bursts and lots of HP and Armor .  Autoattack only rules in lower experience games.

You already have items and flags that increase your damage.  Admitedly there is only 1 such usable item, but it does add significantly to TB's damage and versatility.

I played an hour long 4v4 private game with my clan last night. We were all on TS and the teams were balanced. Grunt and Tower strength was high. They had a TB and we didn't. That made it a nightmare when the game reached giants, because our creeps were constantly dead from TB AoEs. Killing their creeps was tough without enough AoE.

Eventually we managed to get the regulus on our team to pick up Ashkandor AND Girdle of Giants. I had to donate him some items via buying them and dropping them so that he could pick em up and sell em. We were able to push them back quickly with our brand new ranged Ashkandor AoE man that had a QoT and Sedna constantly shielding/healing him and wand of healing him.

I'll admit that you can't really throw 45 or 50 k gold at a Torch Bearer like you can a regulus and expect it to help him as much, but in a normal game where you can hardly even afford mageslayer...TB is usually gonna be the biggest creep killer.

Put 50K gold into hp and armor on TB and play with Staff of Renewal.

Bulwark of the Ages, Godplate, Groffling Warplate, Hungarling's Crown, Nimoth Chest Armor, Staff of Renewal - 39.200 gold, 7500ish hp at level 20, ~70% armor. With hp flag that is a 8600hp on top of the taking only 22,5% damage from auto-attack.  And that TB will maintain >>300 dps with no problem.

IMO Hp and armor stacked TB is the best counter to damage stacking.  You can push a damage build to 1K dps which will only translate to less than 250 dps after damage reduction against said TB, half of which will be negated by regen.  I've seen damage stacked people go WTF when they realise they are dealing next to no damage.

The thing is though, even when you're so heavily hp and armor stacked, the rest of the world around you isn't.  That 1K dps regulus could take down a citadel in seconds if allowed to get close.  And his askhkandor will work on your allies too, while your bulwark aint helping anyone but yourself.

Hmm, I've never really had a crazy enough game as a TB to try investing all that into him, and I usually just upgrade our creeps at that point. You're right though, you can increase a TB's hp and defense all day but there isn't a whole ton u can do to increase his dps besides having the staff of renewal and maybe buying storm bringer to go with it. He still has a ton of area dps though.
