Demigod 101

Hey guys,

Just got this game and real pumped to try it out.  I wasn't sure what everyone would recommend when it comes to starting for the first time.  Is there a tutorial in-game?  Should I skirmish or tourny?  Should i just jump into multiplayer and recieve a raping?

Curious as to what the pro's would recommend.

Thanks

Do a couple of single player skirmishes, try out all the Demigods, see which one you like, then do a single player tournament with that one. After you feel you can beat it on Hard, then you're ready for multiplayer. ;)

If you jump into multiplayer, you'll probably end up pissing a lot of people off, and you might not want that. There are games for noobs only, but that's at your own risk.

No matter what you do your first 3-5 multiplayer games probably won't go so well unless you have some good teammates or you're enemy isn't very good. It's usually a good idea to let people know your first few online games that you are new. They'll tend to freak out a lot less.

There is not tutorial for the game.  If you have played DotA the concept is fairly similar.  If not just do a few skirmishes against AI and you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.  Once you get a little confidence increase the number if AI opponents and/or difficulty.

You should develop some stratagies for the beginning of the matches for each Demigod you like to play (item purchases, skill selection and progression, etc.). You will eventually figure out what works best.  Best advise I can give as far as items go is you'll want to purchase the banded armor and/or scaled helm right off the bat.  Also, don't understimate the power of teleport scrolls, they will save you precious time moving around the map and porting back to base to heal up.

As far as gameplay goes, learn to push with your creep (your mobs).  Over-extending your creep can be deadly, especially in the beginning of the game.  If you are below lvl 7 or 8 and you find yourself next to a tower... RUN! you can't take it out yet and you don't have the HP to loligag around.

The primary goal is to hold the flags (each flag gives you different bonuses to you and your creep).  By holding flags you generate war points which add to your war score.  Increasing your war score allows you to purchase upgrades at your citadel that will benefit/upgrade your structures and your units.  Overpowering the enemy units is key to pushing through their base.

Keep in mind... being killed by enemy Demigods "feed" them (gives them lots of experience and money).  Learn the enemy's skills and know when it's time to retreat.  Getting killed multiple times in the beginning parts of the game will usually decide the outcome.  Going back to base to heal up is nowhere near as detremental as getting squished.

Good luck!

Play a single player game once for EACH demigod.  It doesn't matter if you only plan on being a few of them, you have to know what you are up against.

Thank you!  I've wasted a year or two of my life on DotA and it was getting old.  I appreciate the advice.  I'll kick it around single player and then I hope to see you guys online.

Impulse has a friends list, but I've never figured out how to use it effectively. They are, however, going to add clan support to Demigod sometime over the Summer.

The only way to be ready for multiplayer is to play it.

Try different Demigods through skirmishes and tournaments on Single Player mode. Find out which Demigod suites your play style. Practice that Demigod through skirmishes and tournaments with Hard, Nightmare AI. Finally, jump into the Multiplayer mode and get wtfpwned but that's how you learn. No pain no gain. Honestly, everybody was a noob once before they became good.

It might also be helpful to go here http://forums.demigodthegame.com/forum/524 to look up some tips, if you look around enough you'll find guides for specific demigods and as a fellow newcomer i have found them to be very handy to make up some of the gap for inexperience although i think i'm barely average ;)
