Dunov Battlecruiser Spam possible?

I was playing vs a few hard setting computers recently to try a tactic I been pondering on.  The tactic is to build a fleet of only Dunov Battlecruisers with no fleet support.  (except for a small fleet to help defence)

I was able to just sit there and restore sheilding to my fleet against several computer fleets and win against them time and time again.  (and once I got a Dunov to level 6 for its speical, I could do it for much longer)

Would this tactic be viable on a Online Game, or (seeing how a fair few online games are Rush game) would it take too long to get them to do any good?

Probably not... try Hoshiko spamming if you want a similar effect... Also, mix up the Hoshiko's and Dunov's for maximum effect:thumbsup: .

Eh, I tried a game with this tactic, it worked for the most part, but I only was able to build 2 Dunov's.  My ally Scout Spammed enemy to the point they quit.

Think of it this way.  Enemey builds fleet and sees you playing sim city and doing econ.  Why wouldnt he attack? If he lets you continue to get econ while he got a fleet, you will eventually out econ him to the point where both your mil and econ is greater then his.

Dont cry about this game is all about rushing.  Its about attacking when you can win, and if that means attacking you before your econ gets too big then so be it.  Your fault for going econ..  Just cause you cant play your way and you are force to adapt doesnt mean this game is about rushing.  I try to go econ when I can.  Usually that means taking out the enemy next to me, or if I'm lucky I have teamates on either side of me.

the Dunvo spam would not work against Vasari with their phase missiles

Lol, the scout spam. God I love it. I started the Amish revolution

Anyway, the Dunov Idea is a good one, but it only works to an extent. In an online game, getting two, MAYBE three would be ok, but in online games, you need a fleet. Plain and simple. Capital ships don't do as much damage as say 6-10 frigates that you could have made instead.

Plus, you have to pay a lot more to get a lot of caps early because of the money you have spend on cap ship slots.

Cap ships aren't meant to be "spammed". They're meant to support. To be the bastion in the fleet representing and supporting your method.

Two dunov's is ideal because they can shield regen each other and any other cap you have. Three would just help that concept. In online games, however, you will probably be rushed too quickly to ever have a chance to get more than 2.

Lucky you, or you probably would have lost as stated above...

I'd love to fight Dunov spam with Radiance spam.

Sorry, but the whole idea of a spam is to get a large number of ships, and capital ships cost alot. It'd be hard to amass enough ships to do this.

And that right there is the reason it wouldn't work. Shield regen all you want.. they won't be hitting them. It's a novel idea, and if you were fighting a single human Advent/TEC player it might work. You could wear them down eventually. Three caps is expensive, not only for cap slots, but to build/level them. You're looking at over 10k credits alone, plus time and metal/crystal, to get it functional. Three lvl 6 dunovs, I might be worried.. 3 lvl 6 Marzas ? Then I might consider a tactical withdrawl..

Hoshi's are a better choice, though. They offer the weapon disable, they are cheaper, and they repair hull.. three things shield regen doesn't.

I think it's pretty obvious you wouldn't try this against Vasari, so this is more in consideration to the vs TEC and Advent matches.  I think the biggest issue you will have is getting this off the ground.  Dunov is a poor first capital ship choice, and building lots of capital ships early on is a very expensive proposition.  It seems that you'd be better of putting all that cash into getting five military labs and bringing out heavy cruisers.  A lot more dangerous than the Dunov f;eet you describe, which deals so little damage that it would effectively stalemate if you ran into an enemy fleet that had repair bay backup.

Yeah, not going to work to well. Here's a couple reasons why.

1) Vasari Shield bypass.

2) Reverie

3) Detonate AM

4) Ion Bolt/Phase out hull

5) Nano-Disassembler

6) Repulse

7) Dunov low dmg output.

8) Large focus firing fleets

just to name a few.

Ai only has a limited understanding of how to best combat your strategies. Humans have a much, much superior understanding of strategies and how to effectively counter them. Dunov spam relies on too many things to be functional in MP: Good economy, antimatter, proximity to each other, cooldown time, micro-management etc. Removing one of any of those things makes the idea much less effective, and removing two or more would cripple the strategy all together.
