Stardock, we can help you!

EDIT: Alright folks, from the man himself, the biggest problem Stardock is having right now is a dearth of useful information from us. They know people are having problems, they even know about most of the problems, they just don't have enough information to act on it.

The best way we can help is:

  1. Identify whether any problem you are having is considered a connectivity problem or "other"
  2. If it is a connectivity problem: create a thread in the "Demigod Connectivity Help" forum: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/forum/559
  3. If it is something else, create a thread in the "Demigod Problem Reports" forum: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/forum/549
  4. If you really want to help: go to your My Documents->My Games->Gas Powered Games->Demigod folder, zip your ImpulseReactor.log, DemigodLog.txt, CVPMultiplayerEngine_XXX.csv and MiniDump.dmp files, and email them to support@stardock.com. Make sure you mention the thread title in your email. Even more helpful would be to provide a link back to your thread in the email.
  5. If you really want to help: describe everything about the problem, no matter how trivial it seems, in the thread and the email

OLD POST:

Enough is enough. Clearly you guys are overwhelmed. I understand. Let us help you. Before you push another "fix" patch through, let a dedicated group of good players beat it to death first.

I hearby call upon anyone who:

  1. Is already at least decent at Demigod
  2. Is willing to help QA beta patches
  3. Is not looking for money, power, fame or even credit

Please post your willingness to help out here.

This group of individuals could get the beta patch and hammer on it, playing both private and public games. In exchange, Stardock, perhaps you could open another closed forum where these individuals can provide direct feedback to your QA team (and GPG), without being drowned out by the noise.

Perhaps you should make sure that Stardock is in on the idea before you start recruiting people

Lol a post-release beta test... shows the fact this game should have stayed in development for a few more months...

I think you got it wrong.

Not the part about being overwhelmed. that part you got right:D

But you are wrong in how we could help/what kind of help stardock needs.

Its not help finding the bugs in GAMEPLAY/CONNECTIVITY actual scenarious they need help with, because thats glaringly obvious, all they need to do is try to start a few pantheon games themselves and look at the guys not connecting, or play some actual games to notice the bugs with casting spells.

The help they need is the one that BMAN provided when he found the bug with turning/skill use in the ACTUAL CODE!

This is where they are failing. They look and look and just cant find the errors in the code. They look in all the wrong places, and finally change some logic around and hope that it helps, which it don“t because they have been changing the wrong parts.. just to do "something"...

I play regulus a lot online and I have played all the demigods to a decent degree offline. I would love to help since I think this is a wonderful game. I just want this game to work so people stop complaining and start playing, so count me in if you are looking for people to help out.

I thought they'd only just stopped doing that because it split the community? With half the players on the beta servers, half the players on the release ones...

Wasn't easy getting a game going in non-peak hours while there was a test version around.

Not a bad idea at all, though don't they have huge QA teams already? Who's to say we wouldn't just get lucky and not notice any bugs until proper release?

That said, I'm in :P

IIRC they tried that already and it did not work out.

Really need a test server that people can connect to and run on to help iron this out.  We all want this to be a great game.  Before this patch it was hard to get a game started, now I can get a game started easily, but can't finish one because of model dialogs popping up during play constantly about resync or something.

I would be more than happy.

This sounds like something stardock could use.

I am at least decent at Demigod :P While i haven't played for ages (ei, i live in europe, only bought it last week), i am no stranger to QA or bughunting. I am the editor and head of administration of a quite large social community, and have had my fingers into the back door of several games. That came out wrong. Anyways, i am available to hunt for bugs and test updates. All i want is your first born and a villa with a pool. If thats not possible, then i can settle for fresh air.

Question is, though, if Stardock actually wants this. I could imagine that a new forum and inclution to other parts of the process would take a while to set up.

who put you in charge? looking for some credit & fame? :)

on topic i do think they already have a test patch team, no company puts out patches before they hit live.

I would doit if Stardock/GPG is up to it.

This is a very good idea and I would love to participate... BUT...

In general, all players are QA (in this case... sad as it may be, beta anyone?), most people just don't know how to report bugs properly and Stardock/GPG have not made an easy ticket system for this. More so, from a coder's point of view, each one of us has a very unique specification/setup. Different OS, hardware, router, ISP and so forth - making it very difficult to help them debug it from afar and understand what exactly is the problem because it is not always reproducible. These problems alone will turn this QA testing on our side a total job.

This is basically what has been plaguing Demigod. The fact that it has insane compatibility issues. Even though so many other games/applications that use P2P have overcome this, I really don't understand where the problem is with this game. I think it is due to lack of experience in the P2P field but I don't wanna slander on anyone. I think it's time to stop monkeying around and get this game to a point where we can start complaining about ragequitting and balance - because currently, if you can't play the game then you can't even complain about features or lack thereof!

I, for one, am seriously starting to lose patience.

Alas, I would were I not unable to play more than 2v2 games. X(

But I reckon my awkward timezone wouldn't help either.

Together with the beta release option this could work. Or even create a special beta version of demigod in impulse (not the pre-release, but another instance of the application, just like if it is another game/app) so people can decide which version they want to 'use'
