Strategy to defend against Regulus' mines?

I just had the single most frustrating and hair-pulling Pantheon experience just before.

I was in a 2v2 Domination game on one of the smaller maps with only 3 flags across. BOTH their players were Regulus, and guess what?

They both chose a mine build.

We had a situation where they had TWELVE mines between them over the three central choke points, and they were camping the flags waiting for a mine to go off to follow with a snipe. Needless to say, we weren't very successful in even CAPPING a flag, let alone getting anywhere near beating them.

Sure, when we got them off the mined flags, we could tear them up as per normal, but when the objective is to capture the flags, and when the mines are doing some SERIOUS damage at the later levels especially...it's beyond silly. We were essentially being two shotted each time we tried to capture a flag and they would never move off the central flags.

This CANNOT be the intended usage for mines, because it's so very, very lame and extremely unbalanced.
We spent all our coin on health pots to counteract the mines and citadel upgrades, and then when they got onto the artifact shop items as they had little other expenditures...yeah, the game was quite short lived.

What can be done about this? Surely there's something I'm not considering that could help defend against this type of strategy.

Any ideas?

Use any general.  Buy a cheap minion totem have minion detonate the mine, or Oak use his shield and walk over them.  You can cap flag outside their LOS if the demi isn't there so no sniping.

Yes that is the exact use of mines.  Area control.  Sucks that you got put up against 2 on such a flag free map but that just ends up advantage regulus.

Warp stone, or teleporting favor items.

Actualy, that is exactly how mines are supposed to work.

Lay them where you expect the enemy to run into them, then blast the enemy.

1.) Theres a 50 gold item at the shop that reveals mines and gives huge line of sight.

2.) Who is we? (hich demis did you have?)

3.) Why not go around the chokes and harras their base?

4.) Look for flag where theres no regulus. go to flag. eat mines. pop hp potions. cap flag. cap lock it. Get to next flag.

5.) Change your skill-build.

6.) realize that there are certain matchups of demigods and victory conditions that are inhatly unbalanced towards one faction. Its not avoidable and sometimes it just happens, player selection is after all random. at times you simply get a bad matchup. Nothing inherently wrong with the balance though.

wtf? =.=
your creeps should of clear the mine field in like 1 second...
Oaks shild or QoT shild could of clear those mines in a sec...
Hell even Sedna with heal could of clear the mines and come up unharmed
Or as dragonfang said, idols for generals or just simple generals creeps can take off mines!
And you could of always go around... to come from the back side...
anyways you lost not because of the mines but becase you are a newbie...

sure most players dont know how to use creep waves to thair advantage...

These are all great tips, thanks guys.

I didn't think to look at the shop for items I don't ordinarily use. I'm already set in my ways that it didn't even cross my mind that there'd be something which allowed us to DETECT the silly things.

We had 2 TBs unfortunately, which only added to our dilemma as we were quite squishy and didn't really deal well with 3-6 mines blowing up in our faces from time to time.

I'm aware of the strategy re: using a general and using summons for bait, but I forgot to add that, that wasn't open to us in that particular Pantheon game. Regular creep waves were doing the trick sometimes, but the fact of the matter is, it doesn't take very long or very much mana at all to recast 3 mines.

We held off for quite a bit, but it was always 2 flags v 1 flag, and we really got nailed in the early-mid game where we didn't have the firepower to take down their towers to get in behind them. They already put up a substantial lead early on with their mine spam tactics, and sometimes that's just too difficult to make up in a domi match.

err..... 2 tbs?

Cluster ice rain the shiznit outa them, lol.

2 TB shoudl be able to easily burn away the hp of a regulus.

Spec ice/fireball/hp/ice/firenova etc.

The dd spell combo. start with ice, move in, pop reju pot if needed, nova, fireball, change back to ice ice them again, back to fire.

If you have another tb, skilled like this you can burn one of the mfaster than they can kill you, given wise use of potions.

theres also a hefty item that will increase your max hp for 50% for a set amount of time....

sweet buffer.....

well now. trying to save the12 k gold needed to get the giants AND gain the war rank needed.... while your op holds the flags (and with them the war point sources) is....unrealistic. Not even considering youre on the clock too, its domination after all...

It's situations like this that finally make people realize just how useful things like the flag lock item and observer ward really are.

^^  i'll never tire of preaching it ingame though. The lock on its own has won me all domination games in the pantheon so far. Kept for those where you spawn alone anf face 2 oaks XD.

You dont need giants, the giants wont even trigger the mines at all as the simple creeps go first, giants are last

Giants are only good at the end to bust threw the final towers and fortresses

isn't it 15.8k  to get all the creeps towards giants and giants

best way to clear mines is minions  the only dudes who will have trouble with mines are tb at earily lvls and ub  earily lvls  and reg earily lvls

rook has so much health  he can walk throw them with out much difference

but ub and tb and reg tend to have the  most annouying time with mines but the best way for thenm to stop it is to move arround them

Dont step on them.

Well yeah, but I meant if the other players kept on laying down mines or the creeps before the giants didn't get them all...

Then again, the mines may not even have been in the path of the creeps and just guarding the flags...I didn't fully read the initial post...
