Memory Lapse

Hi Everyone

It isn't very often I sek help from the skinners in this forum, but I need it now, so I'm hoping that you can jog my memory about scripting etc.

OS XP Pro SP3

DesktopX Pro 3.2

Due to a very long period of ill health (ohh! what a shame) and moving from one country to another, then losing a lot of valuable stuff in the prossess, which means I have no records of all the scripts I've used in the past.

I now have a new PC and I'm re purchasing Stardock products. I am trying to create a scripted desktop button as a Widget or Gadget to call up Internet Explorer, or any other .exe file in fact.

I have taken a Explorer.png and created through Desktop Builder a button

away = explorer.png

over = explorer.png

down = explorer.png with 40% brightness

firstly to test, I used "shortcut" to call up IE, which worked as a desktop object. I then converted the "object" to a test Widget using "shortcut" method, which on loading up to desktop called up IE but, I couldn't use 'right click' to bring up the 'context menu' to set "preferences" or "close" the button. To 'unload' the button I have to use Widget Manager.

On the premise that scripting is better and more stable I decided to try and script the button, but I'm afraid my memory fails me and I've forgotten how to script it, in fact I've forgotten the script I've used in the past also its hard copy got lost enroute to where I'm living now. I've searched for examples as near to what I want, on wincustomize, without success.

This is the problem when you are unable do any skinning for a long period time you forget things and you get rusty.

Many thanks in advance for any help

bubobubo (aka the dunce)

PS Can someone point me to Visz (I think thats his username) script tutorials that I used to find on Stardock Central.

Firstly, It's sViz, and she is a her...lol.  Here is a tutorial list from her.

You should be able to right click and choose close. Are you sure it's a widget? Widgets and gadgets should give you a context menu in which you should have the option to recolor, close, etc.

Hi RedneckDude

Yes I've saved as a widget and as a gadget but can't get the right click context menu to show in either case.

Told you my memory was screwed up. Sorry sVIZ ( I mean Ms sVIZ).... lol

Thanks for the link, very much appreciated.
