Combat and movement

I have noticed that if you issue a move command to a mixed fleet that includes support only ships (no guns) and then direct the fleet to attack a target, the support ships will continue flying to the original destination.. leaving the fleet behind.  Likewise if you issue queued attack commands, the non combat ships tend to fly through all queued targets instead of staying with the fleet.  This obviously is not ideal.  I most often find guardians and carriers wandering off...

This is why I like to put my support ships in different control groups.  There isn't a graceful way to get around the issue, since you either have to have several control groups for each task force of ships, or one big control group that isn't useful for issuing tactical commands in battle.

I will say that alt-click is your friend.

why would you want carriers in the middle of a battle anyway? they are just fodder at that point. i stick them right at the grav well so if they have to warp, no moving

End of quote

If your opponent is using light frigates, they can scoot past your LRF and start blasting the carriers, forcing them to jump and breaking up your fleet.  If I'm up against an enemy with lots of LF, I keep my carriers close to my LRF so they're covered.  This is doubly true for Advent with shield regeneration and repulsion.

i usually send lots of ships like 10 capital and 200+ frigates and cruisers (minimum) then when the other guy tries to send al his ships to attack me heading 1 direction..i secretly send another force that phased jump into the gravity place from the opposite side..so a head in to attack which attacks >them< from front and back pining them...u can check my 3 sins siege vids http://www.youtube.com/user/Kamikaze9393
