Do I need a second one for my wife?

I am planning on buying the game, but my wife says that she wants to play with me, so now the question is, is the serial number unique to each retail box?

I know that you can put the game on multiple computers, and that you need two accounts for two seperate people to play, but does that second account need a seperate serial number?

Only if you're going to play online.  If you're not going to play online, then you're fine.  If you are, then you need 2 boxes.

What sacrifices_accepted said is correct. You can play LAN matches with one serial, but to play online at the same time you'll need a unique serial per person.
