I will just be honest with this preorder/gamestopfuss.

I will just be honest with this preorder/gamestopfuss.

First of all, i am not taking patronization stance for stardock here but being in marketing myself for many years i will just share my views why i think some things here went wrong, really wrong.

First of all, kudos to all beta testers, they did fabulous work for the game i am sure and deserve respect and reward, great. Second, kudos to all people who preordered the game they should get something as well, wait they dont get anything at all for showing faith and support by preordering, well as some say "your fault for preordeing" ok.

Third, can we at least remain our dignity by geting the game at the same date as people who just browse the street stores? Obviously not, we take the slap on the face and get insulted. I just hope someone at stardock reallizes we are people just as you are, it is not right to be insulted like this so please take a thought of this will you? If this goes like this just by that i dont know for others but my faith and respect for stardock will go very low. My 2c

P.S. Its not gamesstop responsibility to be sure - http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/demigod/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-49015278&pid=944424&tag=topics;title

All these Q.Q for 2 or 3 days, geez.

this is childish. we played betas months before everyone and full game will be downloadable tomorrow, end of story.

This has gone a bit off the rails.  The primary reason not to buy from GS is to A. Support SD, and B. Not support breaking Street Dates.

Short and simple. Done.

Handy tips for forum use:

Don't start new threads about topics that are already on the first page (multiple times). People are already discussing this and one person's opinion is rarely worth a thread of it's own.

Don't argue with an idiot. They rarely admit defeat and even if they do "Congratulations! You beat an idiot!" All you do is ensure that the thread stays alive (oops, I'm a hypocrite).

you guys make it seem like u never bought a game that was release early by mistake or something.

Mmm, nope, never have, even when I worked at GS and the opportunity was prevalent I wait, the designers decide when it should come out for a reason.  (Though with bigger names it's often the publisher, and for shadowy financial reasons)  *shrug*  I respect the gaming industry.

Actually?  I haven't.  Ever.

Demigod comes out in one day for all those people that pre-order.

If you cant wait one day on Easter then you have some serious issues.

I fail to see the point of the OP. What are you trying to say? That you should get the game from Gamestop? Fine. Go ahead. It just means the game that your buying isnt going to be as good as it could be in the future, so its up to you :)

Mewz.. Are you Jewish by any chance?

BTW.. My cats name is Mews.  She is constantly Mewing about everything. :D

I just couldn't care less. Okay, something got messed up somewhere. A perk for preordering didn't really fall through. Guess what I got. 6 amazing months of beta test.

Someone getting the game a bit earlier than me by mistake, that just doesn't move me at all.

It's funny, but I would never take this from a big corporation. But because I KNOW Stardock aren't the big bad ugly head of flames trying to burn your money as quickly as possible, well, then a mistake is perfectly acceptable.

I find the link at there, gamestop show that Pre-order Ships 4/14/2009

Seem that they know it should release on 14-4-2009 but they had break it.

You could have been playing this game a looonnnggg time ago if you had pre-ordered and helped with the beta.  Now you have to wait for the *actual* ship date.  I really don't have any sympathy.  Gamestop fucked up royally.  It's not Stardocks responsibility to release the game earlier than intended because some jerk or dumbass screwed them over.  This release was planned out.  You do realize that the a majority of the multiplayer portion, and 0-day patch aren't even available right?

I'm insulted that you group yourself with us as customers.

Quoting Peace,
What are you still expecting from Stardock they haven't done yet?
End of Peace's quote

Quoted for emphasis.

I've been quietly monitoring a few of these "Curse you Stardock!" threads, and I still haven't encountered a single reasonable answer to the above.

Neither have I encountered a answer to the query "What reasonable action has Stardock failed to take, that would have prevented this issue?"

Man, kids these days will moan and complain about anything...

It's just a few days, man up.

To say Stardock suddenly doesn't care about the beta testers from this one incident is laughable at the very least considering all that they have done for us.

Those that pre-ordered have not lost anything.  They will get what was promised (and now get it a bit earlier).

Just because someone "gained" three days does not mean you lost threee days.  I will personally promise you three MORE days than them if it will help.  ;)

Just for everyone saying it comes out in a "few days". If you pre-ordered, you are getting the game TOMOROW. That ONE day.

And like Zubaz said, your actually getting the game one day earlier then you were meant to. Does it really hurt you so much that someone else got to play before you?

I don't think that Gamestop and Stardock are partners. As they are both selling Demigod, they are competitors.
lol are you kiding me with this?

Stardock affiliates with resellers to do same what stardock does, sell the game. Gamestop gets their share of money for every piece sold(much much less then stardock). Gosh i cant believe i am talking about the most basic things of selling of almost any product in the world here.

End of mewz's quote

While Stardock or any publisher needs to rely on retail stores to get there product out, I would not assume it is a super friendly relationship.  It's more like an alliance of convenience as not everyone is okay with digial downloads yet and a great number of people still like physical copies (manual, box, etc).  There is also the people who don't know about the game and having a spot on a store shelf can sometimes bring in a new sale.

Did you know that publishers have to pay for shelf space?  Eye level shelf space is the prime realestate and it costs money if you want your game displayed at that location.

As digital distrubition becomes more popular, power and money is being stripped away from retailers and I'm sure that does not make them happy.

When a publisher or developer sells the game directly they keep a great deal more of the profit.  If it's sold at a retail store, it is much much less.

Seeing as Stardock has a digital distrubtion channel it makes them closer to a Publisher and a retail outlet all in one, which is very much in the realm of a competitor.

I would like to point out that if you "had to play the game as soon as possible", you could have pre-ordered months ago and been playing the beta.

Gamestop broke the street date, they just don't care, they do it on a regular basis.  This is doubly true for PC games.  I can't believe that someone hasn't sued them for it already.
