Need some Advent players expertise in shield mitigation.

 Hi Guys and gals

Well I play only Vasari. And do not play much of Advent or Tec. (I'm addicted on phase gates sorry.)

So my question is... I was in a small neutral asteriod. I believe my max shield mitigation was 15% ( for vasari with the max culture research in the civil tree...correct me if I'm wrong kinda a noob) and I was in what I thought was my culture influence.

In waltzes a pretty impressive AI Advent fleet that had at least 1 of every capital ship and a few extra carriers and a nice supporting fleet. I noticed when I moused over a captial ship that it had 57% shield mitigation! I said to myself wow they get 57% shield mitigation to my 15% SM, thats brutal even with phase missiles.

My culture was pushed up to the asteriod and I thought I was getting a culture bonus. Now my fully upgraded star base ( 3 assault systems, 4 defense, 1 phase gate) and about 5 carriers and like about 5 HC's (A small defensive force that usually can fend off quite a bit till reinforcements arrive) got spanked and hard and very fast! I was like wow Advent kicks butt!

I was forced to phase gate my main fleet there which triggered another attack from the other AI ,Tec, at the place that I just phased from which was a major pain because I didnt' have  star base there yet, and the planet got rolled and destroyed my phase gate....anyway....I guess what I'm asking is. What the heck makes Advent so deadly besides the 57% shield mitigation because my main fleet basically was set up the same I had 1 of every capital ship, extra carrier caps too and they were all about level 5-8, same as the Advent about .

Well anyway I didnt get there in time to save the star base but I saved the planet and took tremendous losses thou . Meanwhile I kept mousing over the enemy caps they still had their 57% shield mitigation even thou my culture was now spreading past the asteriod and down the other phase lane....I basically got my ass kicked, the AI retreated after I sacked a few of his caps but he destroyed basically every structure I had on the planet ...and yes the phase gate too... and 2/3 's of my fleet . So I was wondering how they maintained their culture bonus even thou I had total culture control of the asteriod. I dont believe it was that culture super weapon because the game wasn't up to that tech level yet?

I'm a noob kinda to the finer details of the game mechanics reguarding this situation.

Any advice, on this matter would be much appreciated.

I find that when I play 4 hard AI's on a huge map they expand quite quickly and get big fleets and can be quite troublesome but, I don't usually get my butt kicked this badly by the AI thats why I had to post this. BTW this was a game with the new Entrenchment patch 1.02 I think? correct me if I'm wrong please.

Thanks guys and have a good Easter Sunday or whatever and however you celebrate it.

Every ship in the game starts with 15% mitigation. When a ship is taking damage, its mitigation increases for each point of damage. At the same time, mitigation also constantly decreases (to the floor of 15%), even while the ship is being shot at.

Basically the idea behind mitigation is to make ships live longer under focus fire. If they aren't taking much damage, mitigation isn't going to go up very much and drop rather quickly, but as long as they're taking a fair amount it will cap out at the values you saw.

Advent actually can get another 10% above the other races, 4% from shield tech research and 6% from their culture, if they're fighting in a grav well where their culture is dominant.

Well I guess I that explains the 15 % but how did Advent get 57% shield mitigation and wasn't even in their culture.

Well at least it APPEARED to be my culture from the color of the phase lane.

I guess now all I want to know is how does Advent get 57% shield mitigation ? If someone could tell me how they get to that total just so that I know that would great.

BTW Annatar11 thank you for your reply

That ship was being attacked, so its mitigation got capped. Hover over one of your ships that's being shot at, and you'll see its mitigation rising as well.

The Shield mitigation cap for most ships (of all races) is 57% without upgrades, so the advent didn't even have any of their mitigation bonuses researched. If one of your ships starts taking alot of fire, it will also go to 57%. Advent with all shield and culture researches can cap at 67%, and they are the only ones that get a mitigation bonus. As to why the advent owned you so badly, it was probably do to their cap ship abilities or their fleet composition was better poised to destroy yours.

I won't talk about shield mitogation because I'm clueless about but I will tell you two or three things

1. The fleets were similar and everything, and the Advent definitely got an afvantage in carriers because each squad has more fighters or bombers in it.

2. Their carriers(Capitalship Carrier and cruiser carriers) probably outclassed yours.

Essentialy, they had you owned when it came to carriers and fighter/bomber squadrons

Thank you guys for that info, that helps me alot , I'll try to pay closer attention next time.

The thing that really amazed me was that his fleet killed my star base before I could reinforce it less than like 5 mins (cause my phase jump was on the farside of the galaxcy and when I landed I landed on the farside of the planet)

My fully upgraded star bases usually own small fleets and hold off big fleets till I can reinforce it.

Well anyway it was good to see the AI send a nice balanced big fleet at me instead of 1 cap and 12 LF's.

thanks for all the replies you guys roc !

Come to think of it I had no sentinals. I was relying on my fighters to cover my fleet maybe I'll sprinkle like 5 or 6 in the fleet next game.

Very good point I thank you for that

More strike craft in a squad helps you when facing other strike craft, like in a fighter vs fighter.  But when facing flak it's better to have fewer (therefore more sturdy) strike craft.
