Early download available for preorders?

Early download available for preorders?

Hi guys,

I searched the forums and didnt find the answer to this question.  I've preordered the game, sadly after the beta cut off, but obviously dont have a download yet.

Will we be able to pre-download the game in anticipation of the release on the 14th?  might be a bit of a crap show if all the digital guys are trying to get it at the same time on the 14th.

thanks!

Yea i'm a bit dissappointed too...live and learn.....i know STEAM lets you pre-download then sends an unlock code.....

Or hey here's an idea....run the pre-orders on monday during normal business hours and automate our codes to be sent out after midnight (i know there is a way to send out email on a timed thing)

Given that Impulse is only required to install and update games and does not need to be running to play the games, I don't think they can disable an installed game.  Once it is installed there is no more need for Impulse so it can't disable the game.

In regards to codes, to my knowledge Stardock adds the code to your account after they get your order.  I think just about every game I bought on Impulse showed up registered to my account within a few minutes of my order being completed, so your account gets the game when they complete your order without a need for emails usually.  They do send emails with the codes and I think I had one or two games I had to manually add the code for, but that is it.

I am disappointed aswell. What's the whole point to digital pre order a game if you can get your hardcopy via store / online store earlier? (e.g. stores open 9 o'clock and at the same time you can begin downloading)

If I remember correctly, another mod declared that all pre-orders get access to the mentioned early copy. In return for giving trust in a not yet released game and support the developers for their great effort.

I asked a favour to a friend of mine in order get this pre-order.
Because I do not own a credit card, so I had him to "gift" the game for me. As a matter of fact I would have ordered a long time ago but actuality you can't pre-order games with a paypal account.
Also I got some spare time around Easter, for this reason I convinced my friend to buy the game for me, so that I can play with that early copy.

Maybe the "Demigod" team could reconsider their "only beta testers get an early access" decision.

Please know that I am not challenging the accomplishment of a beta tester,
thats quite some awful work, but I think they got their big advantage by "get catching us with our breeches down".

Because we didn't play that game ... yet. :p

It would be nice if people who pre-ordered via digital download could begin downloading the game at say 12:00 AM if not earlier, of the release day.  Otherwise why not just drive to the store and buy it, it would be faster unless you are on an amazing connection.

I don't understand... I bought the game via Impulse, via digital download. It said it would only get the money when the game gets available. I checked, they got the money. But I didn't get any serial code, no way to DL the game. Mpppff, smells fishy.

So basically, we're getting serials throughout Tuesday, the release date, then downloading a several gig game before finally playing it? Bah, most digital downloads offer the game beforehand and then send you a serial to unlock to avoid several potential issues.. (*Recalls AoC preview weekend download fest nightmare*)

Not sure how hammered the servers will be, but Tuesday is my "Sunday" and I was hoping I would actually get to play. Oh well, I suppose. Carry on, and here's hoping for a fantastic release.

If we beta tested, wouldn't we just be updating a little bit?

Traditionally, we push the full game.  There have been significant changes since the last public beta and it's best to have a clean install to avoid mixed files and subsequent issues.

I believe the plan is to have the game require a clean install if you have the beta installed.

So is there a chance to download on monday by someone who puts in an order for the videogame before it has been released?

bummer - this game is released after easter - i was totally hoping for a few days of no sleep and giving this game a real belting.

Early access will be for those who already have serials from the beta. Currently queued preorders will be charged and granted access Tuesday morning.

kryo, I uninstalled the game and removed the beta serial from Impulse so I'd have a clean install next week.  Impulse won't let me re-enter the key now, but will it on Monday?  Thanks!

Unless you bought before Beta 3 or right after it you havent actually been charged. Its just a receipt ;)

True...but....

At the same time i am used to companies who DO allow digital DL's to be pre-loaded ahead of time. The reason we all do it is for convenience and speed of aquiring the game. Like a poster said it would have been easier and quicker to just pre-order a hard copy and pick it up an 9am at the store of choice. If i had known ahead of time this is the way they release digital copies i would have just ordered it elsewhere.

Its also easy for you to sit there and make comments like this when your going to get yours earlier than the rest of us. I'm sure you would be singing a different tune if you weren't.

Does anyone know how big the download will be? Ball park figure is fine.

At first I was also disappointed that I wouldn't be able to pre-load. Then I realised that my key would probably arrive around bed time in my part of the world so I can start downloading and set an alarm for when I expect it to be finished. Damn this 1.5Mb connection!

The problem with this method is that once you have downloaded Demigod you can shut down Impulse and then just run Demigod without ever hearing from it again. This means Stardock cant let you guys pre-download the game as they have no way of stopping you playing after its downloaded.

Now I can understand the dissapointment if you were downloading it off steam and you couldnt get it pre-loaded or you had to download it off a normal site, but your downloading it off Impulse - which downlods VERY fast compared to other sites. I have a pretty slow internet (1/2mb) and my downloads usually average at 100-150kb/second. With Impulse its at least 300kb, and when Im downloading from my laptop it downloads at about 700kb/s (my computer apparently doesnt pick up the wireless that well). It takes me about 1hour half max to download the full thing, which lets be honest, isnt THAT long. To go out, buy the game, come back and install it would probably take an hour - 1 hour and half anyway. Not just that, I bet you most of you guys have download speeds averaging at about 300kb/s from normal websites which is the twice the speed I get.

I beg you pardon, but everyone can download on tuesday, regardless of a pre order or not,

So the servers will be pritty much overwhelmed. And you wont even get that much speed!

Another point to get steamed up about is, that the "normal" selling process via IMPULSE will start in the morning,

Each normal costumer will get their keys via automated emailing (like a normal purchase) and on the other hand the pre order key mailing starts arround 9 AM EST (like a mod said) manually.

So whatever you can tell me about pre ordering tell me now.

What's the point to preorder if s1 else can easily start downloading earlier then a pre orderer can do.

"they have no obligation to let u dl the game before its released. regardless of if u pre-orderd or not."

I think the phrase "preorder" don't need to be explained. Everyone knows what to expect if they are doing a pre order.

Thats gibberish to claim something otherwhise.

Amazon ship their pre orders one or two days before the release date.............

Hell please don't get hold of the wrong end of the stick here!

I am rly happy about demigods release!

But something went awful wrong here.

Version currently on Impulse (but un-downloadable) is about 2.8 GBs.

Well saying the servers will be overwhelmed = slow downloads is quite an assumption. I bet you you will still be downloading firster then your average download speed.

Secondly, pre-orders will get their keys earlier then people who dont pre-order so be happy...

Well as I explained before pre-orders will get their keys earlier then people who didnt pre-order. Second of all, you dont have to pre-order if you dont want. Just cancel it now and then re-order in 3 days if you really want to that much :)

Version currently on Impulse (but un-downloadable) is about 2.8 GBs.

You download the "compressed" version though so the actual download is about 1.8gb. It then extracts (takes about 5 mins) to 2.8gb

Hold on, The system requirements for demigod say 8 gigs of free hard drive space. How is the download only 2.8 gigs? And where do you see this version thats on impulse?

Great ... this is not a fake, I heard that in gas powered game forums too...

Give it 12 hours and we will have our pre order download via rapidshare releases....

So I just called my local gamestop and they are selling Demigod so I plan on canceling this order and going to pick up the game.

Very likely a compressed file, 3 gigs is about right for an 8 gig game.

Same. Hopefully now they change their mine and allow everyone to download on Monday that keeps their preorder..I'm willing to wait since Monday is my "Sat.", so I'm willing to download during Monday and play during Sunday. Otherwise, I might just cancel and pick up the game at EB...gah..why am I so impatient.
